Nick Aldis, WWE SmackDown General Manager, has had a tough time over the past few weeks, getting into verbal and, as of recently, physical altercations against the “Ring General,” Gunther. Well, Gunther may have pushed way too far after his most recent attack on Aldis, pushing the SmackDown GM to do something drastic for SummerSlam 2026 at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Nick Aldis Pays Dividends at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
Gunther, Sami Zayn, Cody Rhodes, and Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk went to war in The Garden tonight. On more than one occasion, both teams had each other on the ropes. Late in the match, Gunther would showcase that he is willing to do anything to get a shot at the Undisputed WWE Title. However, he didn’t account for Nick Aldis.

After WWE official Charles Robinson got taken out after getting taken out by Sami Zayn and CM Punk inadvertently, Punk and Rhodes would take control of the situation. But Gunther would soon wrestle it away and capitalize on the incapacitated official. Gunther would hit a Powerbomb on Rhodes and then blast him with the Undisputed WWE Championship belt. The “Career-Killer” had this won, as a replacement WWE official ran into the ring.

The new referee would count, only for Aldis, hiding under the ring in MSG, to pull him out, costing Gunther and Sami Zayn the win. Gunther was livid and tried to get his hands on Aldis in the home of the New York Knicks. But Aldis would play his game and blast Gunther with the Undisputed WWE Title belt.
Cody Rhodes would hit Cross Rhodes one last time to set his one-on-one match for the Undisputed WWE Championship against CM Punk at SummerSlam 2026. Gunther has disrespected Nick Aldis time and again, and it seems like the former NWA and TNA World Champion needed to get his hands dirty tonight.
