The Summer Conqueror: Brock Lesnar’s 5 Best SummerSlam Matches, Ranked

3. Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock (c): SummerSlam 2002

Fresh off his victory in the 2002 King of the Ring tournament, Brock Lesnar set his sights on The Rock and the Undisputed WWE Championship. The main event carried an electric, big-fight atmosphere, fueled by an incredibly unique crowd dynamic.

Similar to The Rock’s iconic match with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 18, Lesnar, the designated heel, was heavily cheered by the crowd. At the same time, The Rock found himself booed despite being the babyface.

The match maintained an incredible back-and-forth pace right up to the finish, where Lesnar countered a Rock Bottom and hit a definitive F5 to secure the win, becoming the youngest WWE Champion in history at just 25 years old.

2. Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins: SummerSlam 2019

Following Brock Lesnar’s shocking cash-in at Extreme Rules 2019 to win the WWE Universal Championship from Seth Rollins, the two rivals were set to collide one-on-one at SummerSlam.

Far from the one-sided destruction Lesnar dealt Cena five years prior, Rollins pushed Lesnar to his absolute limits in this showcase. Throughout the matchup, Lesnar brilliantly sold Rollins’ crisp, high-flying offense, making every spot feel entirely earned.

The match culminated in a clean victory for Rollins, solidifying his status as a top babyface. This bout is considered by many to be one of the most significant wins of Rollins’ career, made all the more memorable by how perfectly Lesnar played his part in this masterclass.

1. Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk: SummerSlam 2013

The match at SummerSlam 2013 is considered by many to be Lesnar’s finest performance at the event, if not one of the absolute best matches of his entire career. Rather than a standard David vs. Goliath story, this classic was defined by a perfect tagline: “The Best vs. The Beast.”

The build-up was fueled by a deeply personal storyline centered on Paul Heyman’s shocking betrayal of CM Punk, which cost him the Money in the Bank ladder match. Just as he had a year prior against Triple H, Lesnar once again participated in a No Disqualification bout.  What made this match an all-time classic, however, was how flawlessly both men played their roles.

While Punk was the defiant underdog, fighting throughout like a man possessed, Lesnar did an incredible job showcasing why he is arguably WWE’s ultimate Goliath by using raw, explosive power. The ending, which featured crucial interference from Heyman, allowed Lesnar to secure a hard-fought, grueling victory without hurting Punk’s elite status.

Throughout his 12 matches at SummerSlam, which have culminated in a 6-6 record, Brock Lesnar has built a compelling case to be considered “Mr. SummerSlam” – much like Shawn Michaels is viewed as “Mr. WrestleMania.” Heading into his Hell in a Cell showdown with Oba Femi, the biggest question isn’t whether the bout can overtake any of the matches on this list, but whether this will be the final time “The Beast” ever competes in a wrestling ring.
