Los Perros Del Mal of Lucha Libre AAA.

Who Are Los Perros del Mal? A Look at the Illustrious History of One of Lucha Libre’s Most Dangerous Factions

As seen recently on Lucha Libre AAA, Los Perros del Mal made their AAA return by attacking El Grande Americano in the main event segment of the show.

The new iteration features a former member in Daga and brand-new members in Angel, Berto, Bronco Nima, and Karmen Petrovic.

But who are Los Perros del Mal? For many, this is their first look at the group, especially as AAA has gotten more exposure on a global scale through their shows on YouTube.

So we’ll be taking a look at the origins of the group to see where they started and how they got to be the very popular group (and promotion) that they became in the lucha libre scene.

Beginnings in the CMLL

Despite being much more well-known at the time in AAA, Los Perros del Mal was actually formed in CMLL as La Furia del Norte.

After a long feud with the heel trio of Vampiro, Perroth Jr., and Tarzan Boy, Vampiro would suffer an injury and be replaced by the newly debuted Hector Garza. Soon after, Perro Aguayo Jr. would become a rudo and turn on his mentor, Negro Casas, and ally with Garza.

Later, they would be joined by Tarzan Boy and El Terrible and establish a stable called La Furia del Norte, which means The Northern Fury in English, as they all had only trusted northerners and they all hailed from Northern Mexico.

The group would start to gain more prominence in the promotion and establish themselves as one of the top rudo stables in CMLL.

Enter “Los Perros del Mal”

After years of La Furia del Norte having many successes, Perro Aguayo Jr. would decide to make a new group called Los Perros del Mal and include his La Furia del Norte teammates in the group.

La Furia del Norte would continue as a sub-group of Los Perros del Mal, but would refer to the group of Hector Garza, Tarzan Boy, and El Terrible. La Familia de Tijuana and other rudo stars would also be included in the group to expand Perro’s stable.

Under the Perros del Mal name, the group would see even more heights in popularity, with the cool new logo and name, and the group’s antics making them a group to be hated.

Later on, Aguayo and Garza would begin to feud and have a power struggle over the group. This would lead to a Hair vs. Hair match at CMLL’s Homenaje a Dos Leyendas. Aguayo would defeat Garza in the match, and Garza would be forced to shave off his hair.

Perros del Mal Promotions and AAA

In late 2008, Perro Aguayo Jr. would end up leaving CMLL after they had a falling out. Aguayo would be joined by Damien 666 and Mr. Aguila in leaving the promotion.

Following their departure, Aquayo would make his own promotion and name it after his group.

With Perros del Mal and Perro Aguayo Jr. being very popular in Mexico, CMLL would take the creation of the brand new promotion seriously and would begin to counterprogram against the first few Perros del Mal shows.

Many wrestlers would join the promotion, such as L.A. Park, Dr. Wagner Jr., and Cibernetico. The promotion would create its own titles, as well as gain the rights to the Mexican National Heavyweight Championship.

The promotion was very strong and would be a solid promotion, behind CMLL and AAA.

At Triplemanía XVIII, Los Perros del Mal invaded AAA and would be quick to make their presence known.

The first major feud that the group would have was against Los Psycho Circus. The group would be the first to end the undefeated streak of Los Psycho Circus in a Steel Cage Weapons match. The trio would also defeat the group to become the first-ever AAA World Trios Champions.

Hector Garza and Texano Jr. would later leave CMLL and join Los Perros del Mal in AAA. Garza would win the Mexican National Heavyweight Championship. Sadly, Garza would later pass away from lung cancer, and the title would be deactivated for a few years in his honor.

The group would continue to have a lot of turnover and many different titles coming to the group, such as Daga winning the Cruiserweight Title and Taya Valkyrie winning the AAA Reina de Reinas Title.

The group would disband shortly after the death of Perro Aguayo Jr., with the remaining members of Daga, Pentagon Jr., and Garza Jr., now known as Angel in WWE, leaving the group later on. The promotion would also be inactive soon after his death.

There was a new version of the group in 2021 called Los Perros del Mal de Japon in Pro Wrestling Noah, which would also feature former members of the group in Super Crazy and Texano Jr. The group would be short-lived, as it was later disbanded by November 2022.

The Revival

Now that the history of the group has been detailed, there are many unanswered questions about the return of the group and what they are looking to do with their return in AAA.

There is a lot of history with Los Perros del Mal, and the current iteration does feature two former members, as well as another nephew of the great Hector Garza in Berto, and two newer members that have no familial or any history with the group in Karmen Petrovic and Bronco Nima.

With the attack on El Grande Americano and the unmasking and face turn of “The Original” El Grande Americano, Chad Gable, Los Perros del Mal have established themselves as the top heels in AAA and seem to be looking to prove a massive point in the company, much like they originally had in their original iteration.

We will see what this new version of the group can and will do in Lucha Libre AAA.
