Why the New Look MFT Could Be Their Most Dangerous Iteration on SmackDown Yet

MFT started forming on the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania 40. Roman Reigns had just lost his Undisputed WWE Championship and was taking a hiatus. That was when Solo Sikoa took control of the group. Jimmy Uso was still there, but got attacked by a debuting Tama Tonga.

They added Jacob Fatu and Tonga Loa, strengthening them. Fatu left, but got replaced by JC Mateo and Talla Tonga. The five of them had a dominant grip on Friday Night SmackDown over the last two years.

But on May 2, 2026, Loa and Mateo got released from the company. The previous night, under orders from Sikoa, Talla and Tama attacked Fatu, Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso. The latter two have reassociated themselves with Reigns since he won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania: Vegas. Talla and Tama looked very strong, which is what the faction needs now that they’re down to three. Even though MFT lost two men, this new iteration could be very dangerous.

WWE Kept the Most Effective Members of MFT

For many factions within WWE, an absence is both noticeable and felt immediately once they make their entrance the next time. It can lead to the group breaking up and going their separate ways. But with MFT, it doesn’t look like that’s the case. Talla and Tama are both very valuable for Sikoa and the company as a whole. Both of them had great careers in New Japan Pro Wrestling and have continued their impressive showings in WWE. There’s a reason why they weren’t part of the releases last week.

Talla is nearly seven feet tall, towering over most of the men’s division on SmackDown. Having him around is tremendously advantageous, especially for someone like Sikoa. He wants to keep his dominance extended as long as possible.

Having Talla around may make people feel intimidated, fearful and resistant to taking bold moves. With Tama, he doesn’t turn down a fight with anyone. His scrappy nature has made him fearless in the ring. Although tension has been teased between him and Sikoa, staying by his side will make others think twice about crossing Sikoa.

This Storyline Could Lead to a Six-Man Match

Even though the feud between MFT and the Wyatt Sicks dragged on way longer than it should have, there’s one big reason why it was successful. That reason had nothing to do with in-ring work, but instead with the construction of the match. Two factions of four guys brawling with each other ensured that no one really had the obvious upper hand. Right now, Sikoa, Talla, and Tonga are fighting with Jey and Jimmy, who are associated with Roman.

If they turn on him and join Jacob, their dealings with Roman will be done, but who will they fight next? Sikoa is driving a wedge between everyone deliberately. If a turn does happen at Backlash, there’s huge justification for the match. The new look MFT’s versus Jacob, Jey, and Jimmy could be good. Of course, they could stick with Roman and run the same match. Either way, it seems a six-man match could be a reality very soon.

Things Could Be Looking Up for MFT

When nearly half of a faction gets released, things usually aren’t looking good for the remaining members. However, given what happened on Friday, that doesn’t look like what’s happening to MFT. Sikoa is still the same driven guy who wants power for his family. Talla is using his size to intimidate everyone in his path. Tama uses his skill set to inflict effective offense on his opponents. Even though they’ve lost Loa and Mateo, there’s a valid argument that the faction is stronger than ever.

The two most effective guys in the faction are still by Sikoa’s side. That is huge, especially now since he’s fighting with family. It will also help with what’s probably coming after Backlash. The three of them are antagonizing Jey and Jimmy, who are fighting with Jacob, who is facing Roman. It doesn’t matter whether it’s Jacob or Roman besides the Usos. All signs are pointing to a six-man tag match, which could give the new look MFT a chance to shine.
