AEW Dynamite/Collision Preview (5/6/26) – Champions Clash

Once again, Darby Allin defends his AEW World Championship up this upcoming week’s AEW Dynamite/Collision special. Already shaping up to be a clash of champions, given the second announced match for Wednesday night in Charleston, there is no doubt we’re in for bangers. Expect developments and big moments.

For example, after last week’s Bandido, turned Swerve Strickland vignette, I would not be shocked to see that cowboy town set ablaze. After Will Ospreay went to the Death Riders to address his current weaknesses, will we get a training update? Likewise, another surprising water-cooler moment, like Jon Moxley poking PAC in the stomach. I would love it if this became one of the reasons for an eventual Death Riders’ betrayal of Jon Moxley, as I’ve predicted for All In 2026.

With AEW Double or Nothing nearing, expect more matches added to the AEW schedule. Check back for all the latest updates throughout the week.

Double Jeopardy

One of the AEW World Trios Champions, Orange Cassidy, collides with the AEW World Tag Team Champion and Top Guy, Dax Harwood. The winner gains a title shot for their respective team. For the past few weeks, tensions between FTR and The Conglomeration have simmered. Harwood and Cash Wheeler’s lack of respect for The Conglomeration is obvious, although the Conglomeration is not to be taken lightly. Look at Cassidy’s co-champions, Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly, two veterans with world-class resumes and history.

This match, set up to set up a future match, is an interesting side quest for FTR. The Living Legends are not so preoccupied with the threat of Cope and Cage and their upcoming I Quit New York Street Fight at AEW Double or Nothing. The subsequent options for title defences are delicious and have much storyline potential. We’ve seen O’Reilly and Strong clash for the AEW World Tag Team titles against FTR. Tommaso Ciampa teaming with FTR against The Conglomeration could lead to the injured Mark Briscoe’s return.

However, don’t ignore this clash of styles. Harwood likes mind games, but will he be able to cope with Cassidy’s buffoonery? Or will the slacker lure the Axe into a false sense of security? This could be a sleeper hit of the night.

Champion vs. Champion – Darby Allin vs. Kevin Knight

For the third week running, AEW World Champion, Darby Allin, is willing to risk everything against a man with Jet speed momentum. It’s the AEW World Champion vs. the TNT Champion. Kevin Knight scored the biggest victory of his career last week against the former world champion, MJF. Learning from their past encounter in El Paso, Texas, Knight outsmarted and outskilled The Devil.

Week by week, The Jet has proved his stratospheric potential isn’t metaphorical. Earlier this year, Swerve Strickland said Knight could be a world champion in the years to come. Well, having won the AEW World Trios Championship twice and holding the TNT Championship, both wrestlers will make you believe the upset is possible. Then again, Knight did already upset Allin during the Continental Classic last year.

Yet the new Champion, a man I and others doubted because it felt like Darby Allin’s character was missing something, is proving, like Knight, week by week, why he should not be overlooked. With classics against Tommaso Ciampa and Brody King, this match could be the best of the lot.

As for MJF, will he be willing to make a deal to face Allin once again post-match?
