Leading up to WrestleMania: Vegas, there was a tug of war going on for the WWE United States Championship. Carmelo Hayes had a great run with the title, as he beat guys like Ilja Dragunov and Leon Slater. He lost it to Sami Zayn on the March 27, 2025, episode of Friday Night SmackDown. It wasn’t long before his former friend Trick Williams came in and challenged Zayn at WrestleMania.
Williams allowed a rematch between Hayes and Zayn, but Zayn retained. At WrestleMania, Williams ended up beating him to become the new United States Champion. With the SmackDown after WrestleMania promising to be a good one, Williams had to watch his back because he just won the championship. Would Hayes decide to take his shot at the championship, or would Zayn want a rematch of his own?
Zayn Gets Payback after Previous Mockery and WrestleMania Loss
Like Oba Femi, Williams is getting himself over with the fans and is proving to be a highlight every week. Many wrestlers have good NXT careers, but can’t put it together on the main roster. Williams, however, isn’t in that position. Everyone loves his outfits, his promo ability, and his theme song except for one person. That one person is Zayn. They went back and forth for several weeks, but the April 17 SmackDown might’ve been too far for Williams.
He entered an association with Lil Yachty that has been pretty successful. That week, they dropped a song called Gingerbread Man, mocking Zayn and his red hair. When his music hit, a Gingerbread Man came out. Everyone assumed Zayn was in the costume until he came out and confronted Williams. After their exchange, Williams left the ring, leaving Zayn and the Gingerbread Man alone. Zayn gave a Helluva Kick to the Gingerbread Man, leaving him on the mat.
The following week, Williams and Yachty celebrated the former’s United States Championship victory. Yachty announced that he was staying as Williams’ manager, but that wasn’t the only noteworthy thing coming out of the celebration. The Gingerbread Man was back and partying with them. With pyro going off and Yachty tossing money, it looked like the celebration was a success until the Gingerbread Man hit them with a candy cane.

He took off his head to reveal that Zayn was in the costume this week. Williams and Yachty then got punched several times, with Zayn giving Williams a Helluva Kick. It seems like the battle for the United States Championship isn’t over. Even though it hasn’t been confirmed, it looks like another battle at Backlash will happen between them.
