Lucha Underground Teases Return

After seven years of silence, Lucha Underground yesterday revealed a video showing a fog-shrouded Luchador mask, the Spanish word “¿Más?” (More? in English) flashing in red. A one-word caption said: “soon.” It was the account’s first post on X and YouTube since November 2019.

A paper trail filed quietly last year suggests the cult promotion’s tease may be more than nostalgia bait. Lucha Underground, LLC filed trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on January 20, 2025, roughly 15 months before Friday’s social media reactivation.

The website LuchaUnderground.com is also currently active, with a footer reading “© 2026 LUCHA UNDERGROUND, LLC. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.” The legal groundwork points to something more deliberate than a simple tease. In fact, while checking the website, we can find some interesting information.

The 4 seasons of Lucha Underground are now available on many platforms, including highlights on the company’s website and YouTube channel. The 127 complete episodes are available in the USA on Roku, Pluto TV, Plex, and DirecTV. On Amazon Prime Video, the episodes seem to be available worldwide.

What Lucha Underground Was

Developed by Mark Burnett and Robert Rodriguez, Lucha Underground ran for four seasons on the El Rey Network from October 2014 through November 2018. The show was filmed in a Boyle Heights warehouse called The Temple and blended traditional Lucha Libre with cinematic, supernatural storytelling.

The limits were none, as violence, intergender wrestling, and very high-risk manoeuvres were a part of the show. Three Championships were defended: the Lucha Underground Championship, the Gift of the Gods Championship, and the Lucha Underground Trios Championship. No title was gender-related. Sexy Star won the LU and Gift of Gods Championships. Ivelisse is a former 2-time Trios Champion alongside Angélico and Son of Havoc.

What Lucha Underground could be

Whether Lucha Underground returns as a streaming reboot, a one-off special, or a library re-release, the brand is moving for the first time since the El Rey Network shutdown. The promotion served as a launchpad for a generation of stars. The fact that most of the talents are now wrestling in other promotions will make a reboot difficult. Less than a dozen former LU talent could be available for new shows.

Penta, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Cobb, Rey Fénix, or Chelsea Green signed with WWE. Swerve Strickland, Ricochet, Angélico, Brian Cage, Johnny Mundo, Taya Valkyrie, and Sammy Guevara, among others, are AEW-bound. Sami Callihan and Tommy Dreamer both became TNA Wrestling producers. Aero Star is linked to Lucha Libre AAA and WWE. Argenis works for CMLL and other Mexican promotions. Dario Cueto is now the President of MLW. Paul London and Killer Kross are also in the MLW roster.

An “Empire Reborn”

On its website, the company evokes a tour.

For years, the loyal LUCHA UNDERGROUND fan base tuned in to its weekly televised product to catch the latest storyline twist or jaw-dropping leap off the top rope. Now it’s time for fans to get to know LUCHA UNDERGROUND up close and personal, as its stars prepare to criss-cross the globe on a regular touring schedule.

For almost everyone in attendance, it will be their first opportunity to see LUCHA UNDERGROUND live, and the anticipation is growing. Becoming a live, touring wrestling company is an exciting new challenge for LUCHA UNDERGROUND, but one that will generate global interest in the brand, its content and partners – as well as create a significant revenue stream for the company.

If not described, Lucha Underground is working on new projects. Factory Made Venture remains a partner when Amazon Studios appears to be LU’s new partner.

As LUCHA UNDERGROUND moves forward with a full slate of exciting new projects, it remains highly regarded as one of the best produced wrestling programs ever made.

The creative team behind the core weekly LUCHA UNDERGROUND show, and all related content, remains one of the company’s greatest assets and is the reason why we will continue to grow our TV production and distribution department – both for internal projects and as serving the industry as our clients.
