Results From AEW Dynamite Tonight (4/15/26)
MJF chastised Don Callis, Renee Paquette retained his attention
Callis interrupted Paquette’s parking-lot interview with MJF, wishing him luck for his upcoming match. He apologized on behalf of Andrade El Idolo’s loss at AEW Dynasty. MJF, befuddled and angry, instructed Callis to inform Idolo that he’d never become AEW Men’s World Champion if he would struggle to “get the job done.” Paquette yelled at MJF about his match, which she informed him would start the show.
MJF (c) versus Darby Allin was postponed
Still dressed in fancy clothes, MJF refused to wrestle Allin. Besmirching everything related to AEW and Washington, he implored Allin to reconsider, as he felt injured from his match with Kenny Omega at AEW Dynasty. Allin tearfully spoke on how much he would give of himself for AEW and what the company has done for him. Bryan Danielson, on commentary, announced that Tony Khan would delay the match for the main event. Should MJF have rejected this ultimatum, he’d be stripped of his title.
Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay reunited during medical at AEW Dynasty
Nursing his weakened body, Omega mourned his loss against MJF. Ospreay attempted to cheer him up, but Omega countered with his lack of time. However, he motivated Ospreay with the amount of time he has left in his young career.
Tommaso Ciampa defeated Dezmond Xavier (with Myron Reed & Zachary Wentz)
Ciampa wasted no time, stomping a mudhole through Xavier on the ropes. He chased him inside and outside of the ring, refusing to relent. Xavier soon balanced the scales with a dropkick. Ciampa recovered with a headlock. Seeking a powerbomb, Ciampa instead fell victim to a reverse-hurricanrana and a tope suicida. A Rising Knee Strike courtesy of Ciampa quelled Xavier’s comeback. He followed up with a Backstabber and a Rising Knee Strike to win the match.
Post-match: Ciampa professed his hunger for gold in AEW. Whether Darby Allin or MJF would be AEW Men’s World Champion at the end of the night, he would come for the victor.
(I just want to see The Rascalz in more trios matches. Please give me that, Tony.)
FTR promo
Dax Harwood took to the microphone first, calling Washington, Adam Copeland, and Christian Cage losers. Stokely Hathaway laid out his displeasure at the wrestlers that AEW fans prop up, citing a lack of true competition. He continued that Tony Khan would sign away every “chud” in the wrestling industry. Cash Wheeler maintained the anti-crowd sentiment before referencing Edge and Christian’s famous “5-Minute Pose” segments from the Attitude Era.
Kevin Knight (c) defeated Claudio Castagnoli for the TNT Championship
Knight blasted off full throttle, immediately catching Castagnoli with a dropkick that launched him outside. Castagnoli dove back into the ring with a resounding lariat. Twisting Knight’s head with a vice-like grip, Castagnoli eventually found himself back outside with a hip toss. Back in the ring, Castagnoli had Knight firmly under control until the champ shocked him with a Scoop Slam. Catching Knight mid-hurricanrana, the bald Swiss wrestler unleashed a devastating avalanche Neutralizer. Though Knight barely eluded a more grounded Neutralizer, he couldn’t escape a Giant Swing. Knight responded with a UFO Splash that put the challenger down for the 3-count.
Post-match: Knight thanked Castagnoli for the hard-fought match. Shifting attention to Speedball Mike Bailey, Knight assured him he’d catch up in no time. Lastly, he pondered becoming Jet 2-Belts against either MJF or Darby Allin after the main event.
(Castagnoli’s a magnificent base and decently threatening. His CMLL World Championship reign helped solidify that. Against Knight, the pair had exquisite chemistry.)
Renee Paquette interviewed Chris Jericho
After a warm welcome, Jericho thanked Ricochet for giving him one of his favorite matches in recent years. The Demand entered the scene, with Ricochet telling Jericho to go home. He threatened that if he didn’t oblige, the trio would beat him up every night he showed up. Jericho challenged Ricochet to a rematch while reminding him that he is bald several times. Ricochet told Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun to stay back while he brawled with the veteran. They didn’t do that, and the three pummeled the Canadian. Ricochet pulled out his new Rico-Sault to cement his place over Jericho.
Konosuke Takeshita taunted Kazuchika Okada
Following their loss to Young Bucks at AEW Dynasty, Don Callis soothed the bitter Okada. Takeshita passed by, to which Callis beckoned him back. Apologizing for his part in the team’s loss, Takeshita mockingly said he was sorry to Okada.
Will Ospreay defeated Hechicero
Hechicero swiftly tied up Ospreay’s leg. Ospreay transitioned this into a hurricanrana. A headscissors lock bore more agony onto Ospreay’s neck. In reply, Ospreay’s headscissor takedown hurled the luchador to the outside. Securing a hammerlock, Hechicero dizzied the Aerial Assassin. Marina Shafir was shown to be watching in the audience. Using a Surfboard Stretch, Hechicero bent and held Ospreay’s body to a painful degree. Removing his straps, Hechicero lured Ospreay into another hold attempt, countered by an enzuigiri. Ospreay unsheathed a Hidden Blade, which Hechicero redirected into a Guillotine.
Referee Rick Knox shoved Hechicero away amid a rainfall of punches to bring in medical expert Dr. Michael Samson to check Ospreay. Super tope suicida rocked Ospreay outside after being cleared. Hechicero brought out another Guillotine. Ospreay stole Orange Cassidy’s Stundog Millionaire to swing a comeback. Hechicero locked in a triangle choke, hyperextending Ospreay’s arm. Reversing his fortune with a Styles Clash, Ospreay finished off Hechicero with a Hidden Blade.
Post-match: Ospreay celebrated while acknowledging Don Callis on commentary and Shafir in the distance. Unbeknownst to him, Mark Davis waited to lay him out with a lariat.
(Match of the night. With WrestleMania around the corner, having a match like this on television is quite the flex.)
Thekla was interrupted by Alex Windsor
AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla boasted of her victory over Jamie Hayter at AEW Dynasty. Windsor had had enough, posturing that the Toxic Spider’s toxic attitude made her hard to work with, especially during her time in Japan’s Stardom promotion. Julia Hart and Skye Blue tried to surprise Windsor; the Brit made swift work of them.
Death Riders address Will Ospreay
Jon Moxley stated that he had to do what he had to do to put Ospreay down at AEW Dynasty. Garcia reminded him he’d be facing Nick Wayne on April 16 at AEW Collision.
Willow Nightingale (c) defeated Kamille for the TBS Championship
An angry Nightingale unleashed her full fury on Kamille in the corner as retribution for the backstage assault at AEW Dynasty. Delivering forearms, the champ’s rage was suppressed by her challenger’s swift cunning that wrenched her to the mat. Nightingale’s powerbomb faltered due to her weak shoulder. Kamille exploited this as she faceplanted the champ to the mat. Clutching Nightingale’s arm, Kamille maintained control over the weakened limb with utmost cruelty. Nightingale thought quickly and subverted Kamille’s motion to secure a backslide pinfall.
(I don’t like Kamille’s politics, but she wasn’t half-bad here.)
Hikaru Shida & Kris Statlander segment
Shida led a promo hyping up their match on the April 16 episode of AEW Collision. Statlander had no time to say anything.
Sting wished Darby Allin good luck
Asking Allin if he was ready, Sting informed him that it wasn’t “show time” but “your time.”
Darby Allin defeated MJF (c) for the AEW Men’s World Championship
MJF started things with a low blow. Allin fastly rejuvenated himself for a series of Coffin Drops delivered in each corner. With a side headlock, Allin dethroned MJF in a surprising squash to become the new AEW Men’s World Champion in front of his home crowd.
Post-match: The babyface members of AEW’s locker room emptied to embrace Allin.
(MJF wore a light blue gear that echoed the one Ric Flair won at the WCW Great American Bash in 1990. For context, this was the one where Sting won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. I’m not quite moved by this title change, but it’s been a long time coming. I’m just surprised Tony Khan hadn’t pulled the trigger sooner.)
Final Thoughts
The show was great from an in-ring standpoint. Will Ospreay versus Hechicero was the match of the night, but otherwise, the show was heavy on promos. Kevin Knight versus Claudio Castagnoli also delivered, but not quite as high as I expected. Seeing Sting make an appearance felt good as a longtime fan, but I knew what he was here for.
The presence of Sting and the reference to Flair made a moment that would resonate with the Washington fans and diehard Darby Allin fans. I’m not a fan of his, but congratulations, champ.
