For the past several months, Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu have been in an intense rivalry. Their issues started last September on the Friday Night SmackDown after Wrestlepalooza. Fatu returned in response to McIntyre whining about not winning the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Since then, it’s been a back-and-forth battle between the two men. McIntyre actually won the Undisputed WWE Championship, but lost it due to Fatu’s interference on the March 6 SmackDown.
He quit WWE the following week, but returned the same night and has been antagonizing Fatu ever since. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis declared an Unsanctioned Match between the two of them at WrestleMania: Vegas. With one week to go, would McIntyre try to disadvantage Fatu once more or would Fatu get the upper hand in this rivalry?
Fatu Attacked By McIntyre after Statement Win
Fatu was part of MFT from his debut until last summer’s Money in the Bank, when he betrayed Solo Sikoa and left the group. But leaving MFT didn’t mean that he wouldn’t cross paths with them.
On the April 10 SmackDown, he would face Tama Tonga. The match started with them locking arms and punching each other. After a long while, Fatu hit Tama with a shoulder tackle and headbutt, sending him to the ground. Then he dove onto him when he got to the outside, sending him flying over the announcer’s table.
They got back in the ring and traded many strikes, which led to Fatu running Tama into the corner. A running hip attack further increased his chances of winning. Tama ran straight into him and applied the cover, but it wasn’t enough for him to win. Rage from a second straight failed cover caused him to run into a superkick. Fatu then delivered the pop-up Samoan drop and a moonsault for the victory. However, his celebration didn’t last long.
McIntyre arrived, stomping him in the corner and throwing him out of the ring. He then hit him with a chair and a future shock DDT before handcuffing him and putting them around the ring post. A kick to the face caused Fatu to fall down temporarily, but he was put back around the ring post by McIntyre.
A headbutt gave him a temporary advantage, but a kick sent him to the ground. McIntyre got him in the ring and hit the Claymore before whipping him with his belt, extinguishing any hope of fighting back. With only one week left until WrestleMania 42, Fatu has to get an advantage, or he’ll face a definitive loss against an angry McIntyre.
