Greatest WWE WrestleMania Opening Matches, Thus Far

The concept of the opening match has evolved so much since the beginning of WrestleMania. In the early days of WWE, there wasn’t a lot of importance put on the match, at least not as much as is placed on it in recent times. The term “curtain jerker” was thrown around a lot, and starting the show was seen as a demotion more than a promotion. As we have seen, the opening contest is one of the more coveted spots on the card. There has been a decided shift in

The opening match has now become a very important piece of the WrestleMania puzzle. It is the match that gets the crowd hot for the rest of the show. The spotlight of WrestleMania has shone bright on some of these opening contests, and the best of them are listed below.

Bret Hart v Owen Hart (WrestleMania 10)

We can start this list with the low-hanging fruit of what is considered one of the best WrestleMania matches in history. The story of brother versus brother took a while to form, but when it did, the fireworks exploded. Bret Hart refused to face his brother, but after months of goading on the part of his younger brother, the showdown was set to open the tenth WrestleMania.

It should come as no surprise that this match was a technical masterpiece. The brothers Hart put on a clinic of chain wrestling paired with the intensity of a blood feud.

This was a combination of great styles and superb storytelling. The chemistry was off the charts, which makes sense with two brothers facing one another. It was a beautiful back-and-forth battle that was capped off with the shock win by Owen Hart. It was a match that pushed Owen Hart out of his brother’s spotlight.
