CM Punk and Roman Reigns have thrown a plethora of shots and barbs at each other recently. The biggest one of them all was when Punk told Reigns that he would bury him next to his father, disrespecting The Bloodline. Meanwhile, Reigns has been calling Punk a mere monetary commodity or backup plan for WWE, alluding to the idea that Punk only has the title to create transitional buzz after Seth Rollins got injured. At ‘Mania 42, CM Punk should be the Plan A, not the Plan B. Here is why he should retain the World Title.
1. CM Punk Has Not Won At WrestleMania Since Returning To WWE
Many naysayers believe that it would be impossible if Roman Reigns loses three WrestleManias in a row. Reigns lost the WWE Title to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 and lost to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41 in a triple threat with Punk. However, the bigger deal is that Punk has not won at any WrestleManias since returning to WWE.
He missed Mania 40 due to injury and lost his first main event at Mania 41. It would be a bad look if he lost again here, as he should beat the face of WWE to solidify himself as the best in the world.
2. Roman Reigns Already Had A 3-Year World Title Reign in 2020-2023
Furthermore, Roman Reigns does not need this win because he already had a 3-year World Title Reign from 2020 to 2023. That reign spanned over 1000 days, and he defended the title only 30 times.
It would be a disaster if Reigns took away the workhorse world title that was created due to Reigns holding the division hostage with his tyrannical part-time reign in those 3 years. Without The Shield or the Bloodline to protect him, it is unlikely that he would hold the title that long again unless he pulls some strings with The Rock.
3. CM Punk Should Put Over Rising Talent, Not Established Part-Timers
However, The Rock should actually screw Roman Reigns for disgracing The Bloodline after losing the WWE Title to Cody Rhodes at Mania 40. This would set up the dream retirement match between Reigns and The Rock at next year’s WrestleMania. Meanwhile,
Punk can continue his reign into the summer and help elevate rising full-time talent, like Bron Breakker, LA Knight, Sami Zayn, Dominick Mysterio, and Carmelo Hayes, instead of dropping the title to an established part-time talent, like Roman Reigns.
