6 Landmark Women’s Matches & Events in WWE History

The world of professional wrestling is a male-dominated sport. Since the beginning, the men have been the ones whose craft has been taken seriously by both the audience and the office. It was just the way the world worked for years, and thankfully, it’s a trend that started to change in the early 2000’s.

Since that time, the women of World Wrestling Entertainment have been putting on amazing matches that have shown the world the viability of women’s wrestling.

Now that we have entered Women’s History Month, it seems fitting to look back at the women’s matches that have had the most impact in WWE. The matches have shown that the women are just as talented as the men and have created a revolution in Women’s Wrestling.

Alundra Blayze vs Bull Nakano (Women’s Championship Match; SummerSlam 1994)

WWE’s Golden and New Generation Era were not rife with women’s matches. The females were more of an afterthought when it came to booking, but a match snuck through and showed what two great athletes can create when given the opportunity. It was at SummerSlam 1994 when Alundra Blayze defended her Women’s Championship against Bull Nakano.

This was a match that had none of the fluff that some would expect from a women’s match. It was a fantastic wrestling match where Nakano played her monster heel role to perfection, and Blayze was the plucky underdog. There was a stiffness to everything they did, and the crowd slowly got into the match.

This was not the type of wrestling that anyone had seen from WWE’s female contingent. What we saw that night was what the female wrestlers can bring to the table when given the chance.
