Week two of AEW’s Arlington, Texas residency is just under a week away, and already confirmed is a TNT Championship match. Wrestling’s favorite chicken farmer, Mark Briscoe, will defend his title against another dangerous member of the Don Callis Family.
On top of that, ahead of their Dynamite Maximum Carnage clash with the Sisters of Sin, Kris Statlander teams with the Babes of Wrath. For the first time since their split, Statlander and Willow Nightingale are teaming without awkwardness or resentment.
With room to speculate, I would not be surprised to see Eddie Kingston and Ortiz taking on the Grizzled Young Vets. Both teams spoke this past week. The challenge was issued. All that’s left is for both teams to grit their teeth and fight.
Plus, perhaps some updates on Stokely Hathaway’s fundraiser for medical expenses. After FTR came out with Hathaway in a wheelchair after the fighting between the Young Bucks, JetSpeed, Don Callis Family and The Demand were in the ring, they’ll likely have something to say this Saturday.
Check back for more updates throughout the week.
Komander vs. El Clone
Last week, Komander returned to AEW Collision for the first time since October. Before facing Hechicero for a shot at the TNT Championship, Komander saved Angelico from a post-match beating. El Clone got his revenge later in the evening after his fellow Don Callis Family member beat El As del Espacio.
This will be El Clone’s second AEW match, and it’s not just against a veteran luchador. Teaming with Hologram in the past as Los Titanes del Aire (The Titans of the Air), there’s a more personal element to this match. Komander is going to want to exact revenge for his tag partner and stop the momentum of this rudo-mirror version, who looks to supplant the original.
Last week, against Angelico, we saw a more technical lucha match. Jumping straight into the action, it’s going to be a fast-paced lucha sprint between two aerial aces. Expect Komander to walk the ropes and fly, and El Clone to surprise and display more of his diverse arsenal.
TNT Championship
Mark Briscoe will make his second TNT Championship defence after defeating Daniel Garcia at Collision Winter is Coming. His opponent is another technical wizard, yet one with more experience and a literal mastery of llave sorcery. Yo soy Hechicero!
The Mad Scientist of CMLL is going to look to stretch and dismember Briscoe like a cooked chicken. A fan favourite due to his alchemy-like abilities to test and press the mettle of anyone who gets in his way, Hechicero offers Briscoe his strongest test yet. Garcia had youth on his side and the Death Riders. Hechicero has submission and technical wizardry and Don Callis on his side. Callis is likely going to do whatever he can to bring the TNT Championship back to the Family.
As for the match itself, expect a banger. Briscoe’s rough brawling style complements as well as contrasts with opponents who possess technical prowess. Whether this is a one-and-done or Briscoe is going to be squatting away the Don Callis Family again like flies, we’ll soon see.
