Best AEW/ROH 2025 Wrestler of the Year: The Case for Bandido

Bandido’s Connection with Fans/Storytelling

Bandido doesn’t talk much. English is his second language. When he’s on the microphone, it’s only in short bursts and small sentences. However, when he does speak, his heart, passion, and love for wrestling transcend language. His virtues of “never giving up,” combined with his natural charisma, were really effective in getting him across to, and “over,” fans.

It goes beyond his limited mic skills. Bandido’s wrestling style and energy endear him to fans. With this being the first year Bandido had a significant and consistent platform to present himself to the wrestling fans at large, he made a lasting impact. Wrestlers like Bandido thrive in companies like AEW because they can tell their stories in the ring. In WWE, wrestlers like Bandido aren’t given much of a platform. In AEW, when given the chance, Bandido and other Luchadores can thrive and find a different level of success.

That in-ring storytelling of grit, conditioning, and perseverance is front and center.  He did this in two divisions — tag team and singles. The “odd couple” story of Brodido gave fans a quirky yet exhilarating tale to sink their teeth into in 2025. Going at this pace will be tough moving forward. However, the hard part is done: he has put himself at the front of mind with wrestling fans.

The Next AEW World Champion?

What does all of this mean? Of course, the accolades that Bandido will undoubtedly receive at the end of the year are nice. It will help build his profile and ultimately his bank account. His four and five-star matches give him credibility with the hardcore fan base, and his charisma sets him apart from other wrestlers.

All the work he has done in 2025 has laid the groundwork for him to become the first Mexican/Hispanic AEW World Champion. He did the job in 2025 to prove he can pull it off. Odds are his first shot will be after winning the Diamond Gold ring.

Between the in-ring work, the rapport he has built with the crowd, and the progression he has made on the mic, Bandido has earned this position. More than likely, he will lose. But it will be a test run to see how the fans react to Bandido in that position. If Bandido can win the AEW World Championship in 2026, 2025 might be his second career, and this article will be updated for “Bandido: 2026 wrestler of the year.”

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s recognize, reflect, and respect the absolutely Monster year Bandido had in 2025.
