Note: This article contains spoilers for the December 19 episode of WWE SmackDown, which was taped prior to WWE Raw on December 15th. Please proceed at your own risk.
In between a live episode of Raw that Gunther booed out of the building, the Usos defeat the New Day, both Stephanie Vaquer and Maxxine Dupri retain their titles, and Logan Paul vs Rey Mysterio end in a mystery-man-unveiling no contest, WWE taped segments for next Friday’s SmackDown. The taping was announced last week as WWE plans to give their talent time off for the holidays. It precedes a second taping on Friday, which will see WWE pre-record the 12/22 episode of Monday Night Raw. The Hershey SmackDown taping will air on December 26. Storyline-wise, these spoilers are a week ahead as there may be more context for the card that develops this Friday.
The author of this article was in attendance so please note, spoilers come from a first-hand source. Spoilers are in order of how they were taped, perhaps indicating show order.
WWE SmackDown Spoilers for 12/19 (Taped on 12/15)
- Fraxiom defeated Los Garzas in a dark match
- Logan Paul and Burt Texas’ TikTok beef was shown before Texas arrived to the arena and had a moment in the ring. Nothing else happened throughout the night, though it was teased in the video that Paul would have an issue with Texas showing up at his workplace. It’s possible the two filmed content for social media independent of Raw/SmackDown.
- WWE SmackDown spoilers note the night began with the MFTs and Cody Rhodes seen arriving at the arena, the latter of which wasn’t paid off until after Raw finished airing as it seems there was a delay in starting the taping due to weather and the line to get people inside of the Hershey Arena.
- Damien Priest opened the show in ring. He started by talking about John Cena as an inspiration and called him the greatest of all-time before leading the crowd in a “Thank you, Cena” chant. Priest then talked about his business and said he and Rhea Ripley whipped Aleister Black and Zelina Vega so he was done with that and ready to move on. But Vega had other ideas as she appeared on the ramp to taunt Priest. She called him a hypocrite for getting his Mami to help fight his battles and that he didn’t even get the pin in their tag match, Ripley did. She says Priest isn’t a real man and that he can’t stand how Black broke him. He made his decision and has to live with theirs, well, Black’s rather. Black appears in the ring and the two brawl to the outside. The altercation ends as Black hits Priest with a chair and then puts him through the table Priest set up. Security separates the two…for now.
- Byron Saxton is backstage with Nia Jax and Lash Legend. He acknowledges Lash’s upset victory over Alexa Bliss from 12/12 but Jax interrupts and says it wasn’t an upset. Legend won handedly and Bliss never stood a chance. But they are moving on from ‘Charlexa’ and onto the Kabuki Warriors and the tag team titles. Saxton reminds them that RHIYO (Ripley and IYO SKY) have first crack at the champs to which Jax mocks him and says the titles will be theirs. The Kabukis are then seen coming out for their match before we go to what appears to be a commercial break.
- Priest and Black’s altercation is recapped as Black continues the assault backstage, hitting Priest with a shovel before kicking him into a garage door. There have been rumors Priest is taking some time off and it seems this was WWE’s way to write him out of action for a bit.
- Lash Legend and Nia Jax defeated Kabuki Warriors: WWE SmackDown spoilers note this as the show’s first match of the night. Legend and Sane start things off with Sane getting the early advantage until Legend catches her while attempting a crossbody from the top. Jax tags in but then so does Asuka as the Kabukis hit a nice double team move. The Kabukis are seamless as they tag in and out, kicking Jax out of the ring and taking out Legend before action spills to the outside as Sane flies over the ropes to take out both of her challengers. As the match progressed, Legend got a blind tag on Jax and the two took down Asuka. Jax then knocked Asuka off the apron but it wasn’t enough as Sane bought her time and was able to make the hot tag. Asuka sent Jax into Legend with a double dropkick and went for the submission but Jax powered out. Asuka sent Jax into the ring post as Sane made the assist. Legend threw Asuka into the steps and Sane took out Legend. In the ring, Jax caught Sane mid-aerial and reversed into a choke slam before hitting her finisher to give the challengers the victory. Post-match, Bliss and Charlotte Flair cleared the ring and held up the titles.
- Jackie Redmond was backstage with Kiana James and her client, Guilia. James gave Redmond permission to talk to Guilia, who said she was going to regain her Intercontinental Championship because Chelsea Green’s time was running out.
- Giulia vs Alba Fyre: The director of the Secret HERvice provided little challenge for Giulia, who went right after her as soon as the bell rung while also taunting Green. The match was back-and-forth at first but Giulia took over and secured the victory in a bout that saw no outside interference. After the match, Giulia continued to taunt Green, sending her scurrying back up the ramp clearly flustered about Giulia coming after the title.
- DIY vs Ilya Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes: This was a high-intensity tag match from start to finish as noted by WWE SmackDown spoilers as it began with a brawl between all four men. The ref finally got control as Dragunov and Tommaso Ciampa started things off while Hayes put Johnny Gargano through the announce table. Both teams utilized some quick tags early on until Dragunov/Hayes isolated Ciampa in their corner for a bit. This led to Candice LeRae’s first interference of the night as she distracted the ref, allowing #DIY to regain the momentum. Gargano tagged in and he and Dragunov fought to the outside. There were some chants of “Johnny Jackass” despite Gargano and Ciampa wearing shirts telling people not to call Gargano a jackass. That was never going to backfire…Ciampa and Dragunov had a classic boo/yay sequence after some impressive nearfalls by DIY. Hayes broke up an attempt at Meet in the Middle allowing he and Dragunov to regain the edge. Hayes executed his finisher on Ciampa to win the match.
- Solo Sikoa was backstage cutting a promo about how he didn’t take kindly to his family being threatened as he doesn’t play games when it comes to his MFT. Sikoa promised to embarrass and humiliate the Wyatts and that the MFTs were going to take the tag titles because Sikoa’s got the whole world in his hands.
- MFTs (Tanga Loa and JC Mateo) vs Wyatts (Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy): This was SmackDown’s main event as noted by WWE SmackDown spoilers and it was as chaotic as you’d expect. With Uncle Howdy, Erick Rowan, and Nikki Cross looking on from the bottom of the ramp and Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Talla Tonga by the announcers area, Lumis and Gacy defended their titles. Lumis started against Loa but Gacy and Mateo both tagged in pretty quickly. The match began with a series of quick tags and didn’t take long to spill to the outside. There were some big spots as at one point, Loa baited Gacy leading to Mateo picking him up and ramming him headfirst into the ring post. There were a bunch of nearfalls for both sides after that including a great hot tag sequence from Gacy where he cleared Loa off the apron before lifting Mateo and slamming him to the mat. The match ended shortly after as the MFTs’ enforcer, Talla Tonga hit Gacy with a huge boot as the ref was distracted. This led to Rowan taking out Tonga and Sikoa and Tama Tonga attacking Rowan. Then Loa got involved on the attack on Rowan before Howdy and Sikoa started to brawl. Soon everyone got in the fray and the ref had no choice but to throw the match out. The brawl continued for a while after that with a great spot as Rowan threw Cross into the MFTs outside of the ring. The MFTs finally retreated as the Wyatts stood tall to end the show.
- After Raw, a segment was taped with Cody Rhodes and Nick Aldis where Rhodes responded to his attack on Drew McIntyre’s home. Rhodes was diplomatic in agreeing to Aldis’ no contact rule but his attitude turned when he told the SmackDown GM that he worked for him and not the other way around.
