1. Bret Hart Vs. Steve Austin – Survivor Series 1996 & WrestleMania 13
Bret Hart and Steve Austin’s rivalry was like magic every time they stepped inside the squared circle against each other. Austin was on the up as a top star, and the 1996 King of the Ring winner taunted the Hitman. Leading to Hart returning to WWE at Survivor Series 1996, with Hart and Austin tearing the house down inside MSG. The New York crowd was in store for a treat with Hart registering a massive win over Austin.
Months later, at WrestleMania 13, neither Austin nor Hart was involved in the WWE Championship match despite Austin winning the Rumble and Hart being the runner-up. Somehow, they managed to top their match at Survivor Series with a five-star epic at ‘Mania.
This was the highlight of an underwhelming WrestleMania. Their submissions match with Ken Shamrock as the special guest referee was memorable. Austin became a star this night, and WWE pulled off the greatest double turn in history.
The Hitman turned heel with Austin becoming a babyface, with Hart applying the debilitating Sharpshooter with blood dripping down Austin’s face, with Austin passing out. This image became one of the most iconic visuals in the history of WrestleMania.
