What Could Happen After WWE’s NXT Showdown on the Path to TNA Bound For Glory

Last night’s NXT Showdown was an excellent wrestling show, but TNA and NXT ended up in a tie. TNA won the Tag Team titles bout and the NXT vs TNA Men’s match. NXT retained the NXT North American Championship and won the NXT vs TNA Women’s match. Storyline-wise, there was enough to feel a bit frustrated.

We could expect betrayals; there were none. History was meant to be made, and it was. As we are now a few days away from TNA Bound For Glory, in which many NXT talents will compete, NXT Showdown leaves the fans with a lot of question marks. Is the war between NXT and TNA over? Can we expect more surprises as TNA Bound For Glory is just four days away?

The Hardys Made History, Once Again

Matt and Jeff Hardy did something incredible. Their careers have always been made up of incredible moments. With the TNA Bound For Glory match being a TNA Tag Team titles match, the chances for the Hardys to win were important. Team 3D, Bully Ray and D-Von, were there, front row, to witness the first time TNA Wrestlers have captured an NXT Championship.

At 51 and 48, Matt and Jeff Hardy gave a lesson to DarkState. A lesson of resilience, passion, and most importantly, wrestling. The Hardys are now the NXT and TNA Tag Team Champions. For the old-time fans like me, it was a true feel-good moment. More than becoming double Champions, the Hardys’ legacy earned the right to make history again and be the first TNA talents to win an NXT Championship.

Now, at Bound For Glory, things should be a bit more complicated. Team 3D vs The Hardys “One Last Time” is a Tables Match for the TNA Tag Team Championship, which means DarkState could interfere in the match without consequences. Also, as the Hardys are double Champions, Team 3D could up the ante and ask for the two Championships to be on the line.

Mustafa Ali’s Ego Was Not as Big as Ethan Page’s

Mustafa Ali returned to NXT to challenge for Ethan Page’s North American Championship, but he too fell to All Ego. Despite doing an amazing match, Ali found himself caught in the cables of the announce table, allowing Page to send him crashing off the top rope to the floor. That opening allowed Page to hit a Twisted Grin to retain his title.

It makes sense that a rematch has to be set, but not at Bound For Glory, as Ali and his faction Order 4 are involved in a Hardcore War with the System. Once again, the stipulation opens the door for Ethan Page to come and screw Ali again.

So, what would be the best moment for a rematch? NXT Halloween Havoc on October 25? Maybe a TNA event would be better. The problem is there’s nothing on the TNA agenda until Turning Point on November 13.

Teams NXT

The NXT Women did better than the NXT boys. NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne and NXT Women’s North American Champion and Women’s Speed Champion Sol Ruca led Team NXT to a huge victory over Team TNA. Team TNA conquered Team NXT after TNA World Champion Trick Williams walked out on Team NXT.

On the Women’s match side, Team NXT was not as united as expected. Jacy Jayne and Lola Vice argued. When Sol Ruca was about to eliminate the TNA Knockouts Champion, NXT’s Kelani Jordan, Jayne tagged herself in to score the final elimination, awarding the victory to Team NXT. Jordynne Grace did the perfect job, as she was asked by NXT General Manager Ava.

On the Men’s match side, TNA World Champion NXT’s Trick Williams let his team down after Myles Borne and Je’Von Evans were eliminated. Ricky Saints was alone against the whole TNA team. A few days before Bound For Glory, Je’Von was eliminated by his opponent, TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater. When it comes to Trick Williams, he seems now more focused on the NXT title than the TNA. The TNA World Championship should be coming back home on Sunday.

Teams TNA

The TNA Knockouts were not successful when the TNA guys made a statement. Mara Sadé and Kelani Jordan proved their loyalty to TNA. TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Champions The IInspiration got involved after being eliminated, distracting referee Jordynne Grace in the process. As a result, Jordan was unable to secure a pinfall after having Jayne down and out.

Even if Trick Williams let his team down, the TNA guys were brilliant. Even Joe Hendry did a good job as the referee. TNA International Champion Frankie Kazarian eliminated Myles Borne with a crushing Cutter. Je’Von Evans was next to be eliminated, taking out Kazarian and Moose before being rolled up by Leon Slater. Left alone, Saints eliminated Kazarian and Slater.

Moose inadvertently speared Mike Santana, but Santana persevered. In the end, Santana connected with one final Spin the Block on Saints to score the victory for Team TNA. A few days before Bound For Glory, I’m puzzled. Slater will retain, Santana will win. When it comes to Kelani Jordan and The IInspiration, I’m way more puzzled. The Knockouts Singles and Tag-Team Champions proved they can be Sunday night’s big losers.

The Invitation

Before NXT Showdown went off the air, TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella and NXT General Manager Ava congratulated each other on a great night of competition between the two brands. With the partnership back on track, Ava invited the TNA Knockouts to compete in a No. 1 Contenders Battle Royal for the NXT Women’s Championship next Tuesday. The winner will face Jacy Jayne at NXT Halloween Havoc on October 25.

Nygma says: So, everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds? I’m not ready to swallow this one. If NXT offered TNA a big Bound For Glory momentum, is this how things are meant to end? What I expect to happen now is to see more TNA wrestlers winning NXT belts, which will lead to an NXT invasion of TNA, sooner or later.

After all, why does TNA Wrestling have no tapings scheduled or IMPACT live episodes announced after Bound For Glory and until Turning Point? Neither TNA nor NXT won the Showdown battle last night. A battle itself does not end a war. A TNA invasion of the NXT Performance Center could be an idea for the coming weeks. We’ll know more after TNA Bound For Glory.
