Hangman Adam Page promo
Page praised Kyle Fletcher’s efforts in their title match at All Out. He implored Fletcher not to disappoint him with what he does next. Turning his attention to Lee Moriarty, he told him to bring his best because he’s fighing for the “greatest prize” in AEW.
BroDido (Brody King & Bandido) (c) versus GOA (Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun) (for the AEW World Tag Team Championship)
(Bandido’s heart not allowing him to sit idly by despite being the smaller guy in the match, and King’s belief in him to let him do it anyway was wholesome. Kaun savored facing Bandido, while Liona was annoyed by it. These character dynamics and the in-ring itself made for an exciting opener.)
Ricochet joined the commentary desk. A-ha.
Liona eagerly anticipated locking up with King, but Bandido requested that he start the match. Nothing he did could phase the looming Liona, save for a barrage of dropkicks that quickly lost their effect. Kaun was far more patient, savoring the punishment inflicted on Ricochet. GOA alternated between each other in torturing Bandido.
At last, Bandido tagged King in. Prepared, King delivered a series of lefts and rights to both members of GOA. Kaun tricked King into a corner, leading Liona to Elbow Drop King onto his partner’s Backstabber. Whenever King wasn’t unloading on his challengers, he was withstanding their united front against him. Newly legal, Bandido dodged their every move, mocking Liona with a dance. He then shocked everyone by press-slamming Kaun into Liona.
Aiming for a 21-Plex on Liona, Bandido instead fell victim to a suplex courtesy of Kaun. GOA sought to end Bandido with a Superplex, only for King to send them down instead, sans Bandido. Ricochet abandoned post at the commentary desk to attempt a chair swing when Referee Aubrey Edwards’s back was turned, but she caught and evicted him. Bandido pinned Kaun, but she was too late to count.King equalized Liona while giving Bandido momentum to pin Kaun in a 21-Plex for the win.
Conglomeration promo
Mark Briscoe was accompanied by Hologram, Willow Nightingale, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly as he gave some not-so-subtle hints at who his and Hologram’s partner would be tonight. Your brain would have to be freshly squeezed if you didn’t pick up on his hints.
Kris Statlander and Harley Cameron backstage interview
Renee Paquette attempted to ask Statlander how she felt after her win at All Out. Cameron interrupted with a jaunty song. Statlander respectfully addressed her upcoming match with Mina Shirakawa. Paquette asked Statlander what her current relationship to the Death Riders was, to which she replied, “Things can move really fast when you start making decisions,” a line once spoken by Jon Moxley. Cameron ended the segment remaining Statlander’s optimistic cheerleader.
Hangman Adam Page (c) defeated Lee Moriarty for the AEW Men’s World Championship
(As always, Moriarty showed out. With a big moment such as a World Championship match on national television, hopefully this means more for him going forward.)
An eye-catching promo package preceded Moriarty’s entrance. Both men shook hands after the bell.
Page had the early advantage upon lockup, but Moriarty, being the technical wrestler he is, wriggled out just fine. He grounded Page with a headscissors hold. Page caught up, harkening to his own technical past, though, dancing around Moriarty’s holds. Frustrated, Moriarty elbowed the champion in the jaw. The match turned physical, so Page relied on his dynamic style.
Tied on the ropes, Page ate a chest chop that even rattled his shaky neck from All Out’s main event. Moriarty took advantage with a springboard elbow. Page swung a comeback with a Fallaway Slam. Moriarty ensnared Page in an octopus hold and later a Border City Stretch. One lariat and a Deadeye surprised Moriarty and dispatched him for the 3-count.
Post-match All Out segment with Adam Copeland and Christian Cage
Copeland fretted for his wife Beth’s safety after FTR and Stokely Hathaway’s assault on her. A concerned Cage checked on him. Copeland implied he might have to stay away. Cage responded that while he lost his family, Copeland should take care of his. Copeland assured him that he did have a family with the Copelands.
FTR and Stokely Hathaway promo
Cash Wheeler voiced his gripes about Adam Copeland getting in the way of FTR’s tag team aspirations. He then blamed him for Beth getting involved, referring to her cranium as a “Micro Brawler head”. Hathaway forgave Beth. He illustrated a far-fetched story about how he chivalrously tried to greet Beth and allowed her to hurt him. Hathaway also addressed that she doesn’t even work for AEW. Dax Harwood took the microphone next, also apologizing for the treatment of Beth. He didn’t apologize for targeting Copeland and Cage’s vulnerable body parts. Harwood excused himself for confusing her with Copeland and implied she wasn’t much of a woman.
Willow Nightingale interrupted the segment to Hathaway’s chagrin. Citing Beth as an inspiration, Nightingale stated she ws the reason she became a wrestler and a fan so she wouldn’t take crap from men like FTR and Hathaway. She demanded a better apology. Hathaway responded that it was past her bedtime and could use a Proud Family marathon to put her to sleep. She slapped Hathaway. Speedball Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight of JetSpeed rushed to her side.
MJF All Out Post-match Promo
A dejected MJF recalled the hurt he’s faced in AEW. From Adam Cole’s betrayal to the loss to Mark Briscoe, he’d been left with doubts. He implied he’d no longer be the MJF of old, but something worse. For some reason, he chewed up a thumbtack and spat it out to prove a point. Like, I see the point he was trying to make, but that wasn’t necessary, I’d say.
Don Callis Family Promo
Callis, flanked by his family (sans Kyle Fletcher) entered the ring. He then took credit for Mel Coleman’s art she’d made for him over the years. Seeking to unveil a new one, the production crew removed the curtain, revealing Orange Cassidy between the frames.
Rocky Romero led the charge against him, but Mark Briscoe and Hologram rushed to his aid.
The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Hologram, & Orange Cassidy) defeated Don Callis Family (Hechicero, Kazuchika Okada, & Konosuke Takeshita)
(What a feel-good moment for Cassidy after months away from action. I hope they revisit him being a big player again after the build he had near the end of 2024.)
Briscoe wasted no time in clobbering each member of the DCF. Hologram did the same, as did Cassidy. Hologram rained right hands on Hechicero’s skull, with Cassidy providing the last drop. Hechicero and Hologram engaged in speedy and acrobatic lucha libre action. Half-straightjacketed by Hechicero, Hologram writhed in agony. Okada tagged in to break up the lucha offense. Briscoe hurled the Rainmaker about. Cassidy tagged in and hugged Okada. Takeshita came to Okada’s aid, saving him from a Stundog Millionaire. They would have argued if it weren’t for Cassidy doing his soft kick gimmick. Hechicero sent Hologram tumbling with a Guillotine. Both teams took turns deploying finishers on each other. Despite Takeshita spiking him, Hologram annihilated him with a Destroyer. Hologram defeated Hechicero with a Portal Bomb for the pinfall.
Post-match, Kyle Fletcher spoke to The Conglomeration. He said that while he wasn’t lucky at All Out, he’d become AEW Men’s World Champion someday. Agreeing that Page was right about feeling deflated about his loss, Fletcher reminded himself who he was. Mentioning Hologram’s 34-0 undefeated streak, Fletcher challenged him for the TNT Championship at the AEW Dynamite Anniversary special.
Mina Shirakawa backstage interview
Shirakawa recalled a promise she and Toni Storm made to keep fighting. She then shifted her attention to her match with Kris Statlander, stating that she’d “get all of Mina.”
Jurassic Express vignette
An eerie video package showing Jack Perry pulling Luchasaurus’s coffin and reviving him played with flashbacks to their tag team career.
Claudio Castagnoli defeated Powerhouse Hobbs
(Exactly the hoss match this was expected to be. Each strike hit a satisfying note as a result. Perfect match to turn your mind off too and not analyze anything, with a post-match to remind viewers what the story is. Good stuff.)
Hobbs immediately went to work on Castagnoli, leading to them clobbering each other in rhythm to “MEAT!” chants from the Pittsburgh crowd. Castagnoli believed his uppercuts would be enough on Hobbs to earn himself a breather, but Hobbs slammed him around with no mercy. They grappled, spilling out near the commentary desk. The pair brwled beyond the barricade, with Castagnoli’s fists getting the better of Hobbs.
Castagnoli maintained his control, flinging Hobbs about with absolute disdain. Hobbs fell prey to a suplex from the top rope. Castagnoli failed to capitalize properly when he talked smack to Bryan Danielson on commentary. Hobbs pummelled Castagnoli for his efforts. Hobbs absorbed a torrent of European uppercuts, but a distraction from Pac kept him at bay. With one brutal uppercut, Castagnoli finished Hobbs with a 3-count.
Post-match, Samoa Joe charged after Pac, who fled. Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta ambushed Hobbs in the meantime. Hangman Adam Page sprinted to their side.
Tony Khan’s Important Announcement
(Perfect. This will provide the women’s roster the chance to have more time on television, hopefully.)
Tony Khan, or “T-Bird” as Excalibur referred to him, called to Renee Paquette to unveil new championships—the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship.
Kris Statlander (c) versus Mina Shirakawa for the AEW Women’s World Championship
Shirakawa teed off on Statlander, but the overwhelming size of the champion made things difficult. Still, Shirakawa poured a litany of fists onto her head in the corner. Pivoting to Statlander’s weak knees, Shirakawa drove them onto the floor. Unsatisfied, she hurled Statlander across the ringside. Continuing to plague the champion, Shirakawa’s dynamic offense soon fell short of Statlander’s reach and power.
A Slingblade from the top rope toppled the gargantuan Statlander, to no avail. Statlander desperately reached for a rope break seconds into Shirakawa’s figure-four leglock. Multiple spinning backfists dazed the champion. In spite of all the afflictions caused by her challenger, Statlander used a seatbelt pin to retain her championship.
Post-match, Harley Cameron and the Death Riders accompanied Statlander. Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir were the last to join. Wheeler Yuta embraced Statlander for a hug, to which she accepted. Cameron looked worried in the corner. Statlander in a snap clotheslined Yuta, flipped off Moxley, and darted from Shafir. She grabbed Cameron, and the two ascended stairs in the crowd.
As if things weren’t intense enough, Darby Allin crept from the entrance with a flamethrower. He added pressure to it with each step closer the Death Riders walked. Allin challenged Moxley to an “I Quit” Match at WrestleDream.
Final Thoughts
Strong fallout from All Out. Talent who were fresh out of injury recovery or hiatus were rotated in as others were rotated out. The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship announcement is a fun one. I wonder if there’ll be a tournament to determine the inaugural holders.
