CM Punk and Seth Rollins have certainly been through a lot together since the start of the year. Several meetings in the ring have led to tons of matches, including Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank contract to steal Punk’s World Heavyweight Championship win at SummerSlam. A simple match at the Raw on Netflix premiere turned into a bitter rivalry with no end in sight.
Things got worse at Clash in Paris when Becky Lynch cost Punk the World Heavyweight Championship. On September 1, 2025, episode of Monday Night Raw, Punk arrived with a lot to say about what happened in Paris.
Monday’s Tense Confrontation Teased an Epic Mixed Tag Match
Punk has had extremely bad luck when it comes to facing Rollins over the last month. He won the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, his first title since returning to WWE. But that moment didn’t last long, with Rollins pulling off another “heist of the century”. Then, he was super close to reclaiming the title before a surprise attack by a masked Lynch foiled any chances of a victory. Understandably, he was seeking answers from Rollins. But Lynch came out instead, with Punk initially dismissing her.
Lynch fired back due to his behavior towards her husband, saying he berated him, and she wasn’t going to accept that behavior. Punk then started insulting him, leading Rollins to finally make his presence known. As he was going to confront him, he was met by several slaps from Lynch. Later on, Punk asked Raw General Manager Adam Pearce where Friday’s SmackDown was.
Pearce responded by saying it was in Chicago, his hometown. It’s been rumored for weeks that his wife, AJ Lee, could be making a return for Wrestlepalooza to team with him against Lynch and Rollins. It certainly seems that Punk needs a partner if they want to face him in a match. Could we see her return in Chicago on Friday? Monday’s segment conveyed that it could be only a matter of when, not if, Lee returns to the ring.
If Punk is truly teasing AJ Lee’s return, it will definitely be a much-welcomed comeback for the WWE Universe. It’s been over 10 years since Lee graced a WWE ring. Lee retired the day after WrestleMania 31, securing one final win against The Bella Twins in a tag team match, teaming with Paige, also known as Saraya. Apart from this instance on Monday night, Punk has constantly teased the return of his wife to the company, specifically at this past edition of the Royal Rumble.
We may be one step closer to an AJ Lee return after all that went down this past Monday Night, and it might been sooner than everyone anyone expected.
