Why Mr. Iguana has Become a Fan Favorite so Rapidly

WWE’s partnership with AAA is off to an exciting start. We’ve seen many WWE wrestlers step foot in an AAA ring, with Los Garza winning the AAA Tag Team Championships. Worlds Collide was so popular that a second event is happening on September 12. TripleMania XXXIII had lots of incredible moments. Plus, some AAA wrestlers have even wrestled on WWE television. One of those wrestlers that have crossed over is Mr. Iguana.

He appeared on the August 1, 2025, episode of Friday Night SmackDown, wrestling Los Garza with Psycho Clown. His second appearance was on the August 18, 2025, episode of Monday Night Raw, wrestling Finn Balor and JD McDonagh with Dragon Lee. His wrestling has been good, but that’s not why he’s become a fan favorite. A unique look and fun personality have made him extremely popular with WWE fans everywhere.

Mr. Iguana is a Throwback to Popular Gimmicks

Gimmicks on the main roster are a rarity these days, but they never used to be. Back twenty to thirty years ago, and even longer, they were a huge part of WWE. Wrestlers like Big Boss Man, the Boogeyman, Doink the Clown, the Repo Man, and others used those gimmicks to get over with the crowd.

Even short-lived gimmicks like Kizarny and the Yeti are remembered by some today. Their outfits and dedication to making their character believable added another layer to their persona. Having those types of characters adds fun to wrestling shows.

Mr. Iguana shows up with his face painted green and black, a green outfit, and an iguana plushie called La Yesca. He is dedicated to his character, getting himself over before he even steps in the ring. Presentation is everything, and having a gimmick can help a wrestler become a star.

His Presentation is Popular with the Kids

WWE largely appeals to the whole family, with kids attending shows every week. There are matches, though, where it’s debatable as to whether they should watch. But most of the time, kids get to watch everything. Mr. Iguana coming out to the ring probably got a smile out of them.

He’s not a scary wrestler that can make kids cry, like some kids did with Kane and the Undertaker. His face paint and outfit are designed to mimic an iguana like a clown or a theatre performer. If kids are interested in iguanas or animals as a whole, they are sure to love him.

He also carries around La Yesca wherever he goes. Kids everywhere grow up with puppet shows and stuffed animals. La Yesca is a little plushie that he controls himself. His whole presentation appeals to kids, which is why Mr. Iguana is popular right now.

He Gets Reactions From All Age Groups

One of the great things about Mr. Iguana is that he appeals to everyone. Adults who watch him feel nostalgia for the days when gimmicks were popular. Kids get a chance to see a man pretending he is an iguana with an added stuffed animal that enhances his presentation.

New and lapsed fans are probably interested in watching more now that he is rising in popularity. Creating a character is one thing, but making it work is an entirely different thing. He fully immerses himself in being an iguana with his face paint and outfit.

Doing so entertains the fans before he steps foot in the ring. La Yesca is also very popular, just like stuffed animals have been in WWE. Mr. Iguana’s ability to get a reaction out of everyone is why he is getting a huge reaction every time he appears on WWE television.
