Former Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green is stepping away from social media following the vitriolic backlash from online trolls earlier this week. In her final post on X, Green revealed why she would be taking a break from social media duties for the foreseeable future.

The decision comes after Green paid tribute to the Hulkster on X shortly after news of his passing was announced. The leader of the Green Regime was the victim of a slew of negative comments, leading her to delete the original post.
“Political views aside, Hulk Hogan’s influence on the wrestling world was clearly undeniable. He inspired millions and shaped an entire generation of fans, my husband [Matt Cardona] included. We are mourning the loss of an icon… a legend. My love goes out to his family,” wrote Green in the now-deleted post.
Chelsea Green Clears up Any Confusion Over Her Tribute to Hulk Hogan
Green, who was accused of condoning racism in paying tribute to Hogan, posted on the subject less than half an hour after deleting her original tweet. She apologized for any offense she may have caused. The Canadian wrestler has often gained praise for her outspoken nature on social media. She is known for calling out fans for their derogatory discourse in the past.
“A significant part of my role at @WWE involves engaging with the public & responding to questions, often on live platforms. Yesterday, I was asked to comment on Hulk Hogan on live TV. Let me be clear: my stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it—period. If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated. I am learning one day at a time and will continue to learn. ILY my PatriHOTS, President Chelsea,” wrote Green in her follow-up to the deleted Hogan tribute.
The incredibly unfair treatment of Green on social media is in huge contrast to Cody Rhodes’ tribute to Hogan on WWE SmackDown last night. The American Nightmare was praised for striking a balance between respecting Hogan’s wrestling legacy and acknowledging his controversial behavior.
It will be interesting to see if this sparks a broader discussion about the disparities in how male and female wrestlers are treated on social media and how these issues need to be addressed.
