Gabe Kidd Withdraws from the G1

After forfeiting his next two tournament matches, IWGP Global Heavyweight champion announced before the show that he is withdrawing from this year’s G1. Kidd sustained a hyperextended knee during his opener against Konosuke Takeshita and has not wrestled since.

He initially stated that he wanted to continue after being cleared, as he announced his forfeiture of his match against Zack Sabre Jr. on day two. However, during this announcement, he mentioned that he had spoken to the doctors and that there was no way he would be cleared soon.

Tanahashi Wins First Ever Singles Bout vs. Finlay

For the first time, Bullet Club War Dogs leader David Finlay faced Hiroshi Tanahashi in a singles match, and it couldn’t have been more significant. Both men had the same amount of points going in and have suffered two losses.

Tanahashi got the better of Finlay with his technical prowess and veteran savvy, countering an Overkill attempt into a small package to get the pinfall victory. The Ace has successfully bounced back after losing back-to-back matches, while the loss gave The Rebel the same fate.

Aside from going up to four points, Tanahashi also earned his 99th G1 win, maintaining his strong grip on the record of having the most wins in the tournament’s history, as noted by color commentator Chris Charlton on English commentary. Finlay remains at the bottom of the pack with just two points.

EVIL, Tsuji, and Oleg Tied at the Top

There is now a three-way tie at the top of the A Block as a result of yesterday’s matches. EVIL, Yota Tsuji, and NEVER Openweight champion Boltin Oleg are now leading with six points each.

Oleg defeated Sanada, giving the latter his third loss in the tournament and falling to the bottom with only two points. EVIL used the number game advantage he had over IWGP Tag Team champion Taichi, who remained with four points. Lastly, Tsuji got the win over G1 first-timer Ryohei Oiwa, who also has four.

Meanwhile, Yuya Uemura was triumphant over Callum Newman to go up to four points, while Newman also slid down to the bottom of the standings with just two.

B Block action rolls on tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. JST/2:00 a.m. ET start time, headlined by Shingo Takagi vs. Konosuke Takeshita.
