Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Who’s Left for John Cena to Face in his Farewell WWE Tour?

We are over halfway through 2025, meaning that we are even closer to the retirement of the legend, John Cena. On this WWE retirement tour, he announced 36 dates and has about 15 dates left. On this tour, we have seen Cena compete against the likes of Randy Orton, CM Punk, and Cody Rhodes, but who else can we see? Will we see more matches against legends, or will we see some upcoming stars get their chance to face Cena?

Gunther

Ever since Gunther’s debut on the main roster, he has been one of the top guys in the company. He has had notable World Heavyweight Championship reigns, which have received high praise, despite his heel persona.

The fans adore Gunther’s wrestling style and his character. Although he is very experienced in the ring, he is still relatively new to the main roster compared to some of the other stars. Cena and Gunther had never had the opportunity to cross paths with one another, but is now the time?

A match between Gunther and John Cena would be a never-before-seen spectacle. The idea of this match is so large that it is being rumored to be Cena’s final match in December. While it is still too soon to assume, we can hope that at some point during this tour, these two can stand across the squared circle from one another.

Roman Reigns

This past Monday Night on Raw, Roman Reigns made his return to the WWE. His last appearance with the company was at WrestleMania 41 when Paul Heyman turned on him and aligned with Seth Rollins.

While Reigns may have some other plans on his plate right now, it would be interesting to see these two have one more battle against one another. The last time they had a singles match against one another was back at SummerSlam 2021, where Reigns defeated Cena for the Universal Championship.

Since 2021, Reigns has grown immensely as a character and in the ring. He has grown to become one of the company’s top faces. It would be interesting to see them have a match, considering the difference in circumstances. This time Cena is the heel, and Heyman isn’t with Reigns. Because of that, this match can unfold differently than what we have seen in the past.

Seth Rollins

This one may not happen, considering he just got injured, but I don’t think fans would be opposed to seeing Cena vs Rollins one more time before Cena’s retirement. Rumors are going around about the legitimacy or severity of the injury, considering Rollins holds the Money in the Bank briefcase. This could be to have a surprise return cash in from Rollins. Fans wouldn’t expect his return if he comes back early from the injury.

However, Rollins has had knee injuries and issues in the past, so we can only hope that if it is legitimate, he won’t be out long. At least not out long enough to have to relinquish the Money in the Bank briefcase.

Cena and Rollins are beyond overdue for a singles match against one another. The last singles match they had against each other was 10 years ago at Summerslam 2015. The two competed in a winner-takes-all match for the United States Championship and World Heavyweight Championship, where Rollins walked out with all the gold.

Rollins has evolved so much since that match. Looking back at SummerSlam 2015, that match and feud between the two was one of the most memorable. Fans won’t forget when Rollins broke Cena’s nose, or when Rollins had a statue made for him holding both championships. Or the fact that after this feud, Sting made his return to the WWE. 2015 was the year of the John Cena and Seth Rollins feud; now, here we are 10 years later, and it feels like time to run it back for one last time.

The Rock

Ever since John Cena made his long-awaited heel turn, the WWE Universe has been wondering if The Rock will play another role in his farewell tour. The Rock was the one who turned Cena heel at Elimination Chamber 2025, and yet we haven’t seen The Rock much since.

The Rock and John Cena have had one of the greatest feuds in WWE history, with their last singles match together being at the main event of WrestleMania 29. With both of them having legendary status in the company and appearing in the WWE at the same time, fans are only hoping to see this dream match one more time.

The history between the two runs deep, and it would be nice for fans to get some closure or one final battle between the two. Many expected The Rock to appear at WrestleMania 41 during Cena vs. Rhodes; however, it didn’t happen. Will we be lucky enough to see Cena and The Rock in the ring together again? Will The Rock return to end the storyline that had been created at the Elimination Chamber when they aligned?
