There's many Jeff Cobb matches to view to see what to expect from WWE's newest superstar

Jeff Cobb: Matches To Watch To Get To Know WWE’s Newest Star

Jeff Cobb provided one of the biggest shocks during WWE Backlash when he made his WWE debut. This sets us up for multiple dream WWE Jeff Cobb matches.

Cobb debuted alongside Solo Sikoa to aid Jacob Fatu in retaining his WWE United States Championship.

Here’s some Jeff Cobb matches to watch to help you get to know the newest member of the ever-evolving Bloodline.

Jeff Cobb vs. Jacob Fatu
DEFY Marauders (10/29/21)

The first question most want to know is how Jeff Cobb fits into the Anoa’i Family Tree known in WWE as The Bloodline?

Well. He doesn’t. Cobb isn’t related to the Anoa’i family at all. Cobb grew up in Hawaii and Guam, going on to represent Guam in freestyle wrestling at the 2004 Olympic Games.

Fatu seemed surprised to see Cobb with Sikoa at Backlash. This suggests there’s as much chance of the pair teaming up as fighting each other.

Fatu and Cobb are no strangers. The two men have competed extensively on the independent scene, including the below no-contest in DEFY.

NJPW World Television Title Four Way: Ren Narita (c) vs. Jeff Cobb vs. Ryohei Oiwa vs. El Phantasmo
NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19, Tokyo Dome (1/4/25)

Michael Cole served up a classic WWE cliche when he referred to Cobb as the ‘hottest free agent’ in wrestling at Backlash.

Cobb comes into WWE at the height of his ascension in NJPW. During his eight years with NJPW, Cobb largely competed for the TV Title or in the tag division.

At the start of 2025, Cobb competed for the NJPW TV Title at Wrestle Kingdom 19. The next day, he competed for the IWGP Tag Team Championship at NJPW/ CMLL/ AEW Wrestle Dynasty.

Cobb would later win the tag team titles but vacate them and walk out on NJPW.

Proof of his value in NJPW, Cobb was still rewarded with a final match against NJPW President and living legend Hiroshi Tanahashi, last month.

Check out his final appearance in the Tokyo Dome as he challenges for a title he once held for 164 days.

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship: Kenny Omega vs. Jeff Cobb
AEW Dynamite (3/29/23)

Cobb made multiple appearances for AEW whilst contracted to NJPW. Cobb was largely used on the Forbidden Door shows as part of multi-man matches.

His most prominent match came in a IWGP US Championship match against Kenny Omega.

ROH World Television Title: Punishment Martinez vs. Jeff Cobb
ROH Wrestling (9/29/18)

Cobb also appeared regularly in Ring of Honor during his stint in NJPW.

He won the ROH World TV Title from Punishment Martinez in September 2018 in his first official ROH match.

Martinez would leave ROH immediately to become Damian Priest in WWE.

ROH TV Title & NEVER Openweight Championship Title vs. Title Match: Jeff Cobb vs. Will Ospreay
ROH/ NJPW G1 Supercard, Madison Square Garden (4/6/19)

At ROH/ NJPW G1 Supercard, Cobb put his ROH TV title on the line against Will Ospreay’s NEVER Openweight Championship.

It was a battle between two of the most exciting wrestlers outside of WWE. In 2019, ROH and NJPW were two of the hottest companies to be in before AEW emerged and forced WWE to improve its product.

Ospreay is now the top star in AEW. Cobb signing for WWE proves that both men have reached the potential shown in this PPV opener.

Lucha Underground Championship: Matanza vs. Pentagon Jr.
Lucha Underground (3/30/16)

Cobb played the masked luchador “The Monster” Matanza Cueto. He soon won the Lucha Underground Championship during a 21-man Aztec Warfare match.

During his 119-day reign he defended the gold against Penta, Rey Fenix, Brian Cage, Mil Muertes, Ricochet and Swerve Strickland. He eventually lost the title in the next Aztec Warfare match.

Even at this stage, WWE were said to be interested in Cobb.
