Interview: The Rascalz Reflect on The Hardys, Ace Austin, and TNA

Interview: The Rascalz Reflect on The Hardys, Ace Austin, and TNA

In an interview with Last Word on Pro Wrestling and WorldWide Wrestling, Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz, aka The Rascalz, talked about many subjects. This includes their relationship with Ace Austin, wrestling legends like the Hardys, the fact that TNA Wrestling has never been more popular, and more. Still focused on the TNA World Tag Team Championship, Miguel and Wentz really made it clear that they want another chance because they want to be the best tag team in the world.

Working With Ace Austin

A few weeks before this interview, Ace Austin said he had to put a lot of differences aside to work with The Rascalz and forgive a lot of the past. The three men’s careers have been intertwined since before TNA, when they were trying to become stars. They lived together in the same house in Ohio, trained and traveled the road together.

Zachary Wentz explains, “A lot of people don’t know this, but Ace Austin grew up in the business with us. We lived together in the same house in Dayton, Ohio. We traveled the roads together, so we’re very close to Ace Austin. He did some foul things to Trey back in the day, but there’s bigger things that bring us together. Chris Bey is a close friend of the Rascalz, and Ace Austin is left without a brother right now, so he needs to be lifted up. That’s what the Rascals do, we lift those up in need. I’m enjoying the partnership right now, the relationship with Ace. He fits very well into our mold, he works our style.”

Trey Miguel added, “There’s a huge part of me that’s got some big stuff I got to hold for a while, but I think we’re doing all right so far. Ace is one of those people, since he got to TNA, I feel like I’ve always been paired with him. I’m excited to be like sort of married to him in wrestling. He’s one of the most innovative wrestlers that you could watch or be a fan of today. I couldn’t imagine being married to someone in a wrestling sense and not liking him personally. Ace is a really laid-back kind of guy behind the scenes. We have a lot of things in common behind the scenes, and growing up together, he’s one of us, he’s one of the boys.”

Wrestling The Hardys at Genesis

The Hardys have influenced generations of tag teams, and it would have been a surprise not to hear The Rascalz say they were not. Wentz and Miguel had the chance to compete against a team they have been fans of at Genesis, and they were very emotional about it.

On the topic, Zachary Wentz said, “I do the Swanton Bomb because of Jeff Hardy, I colored my hair because of Jeff Hardy (…) I still have the Hardy pendant hanging in my car.  So, it was really cool in that sense of finally we got to wrestle the people that we looked up to and emulated. Also, it was a cool chance to say, “Hey, we’re the young guns who want your spot.” They’re awesome, I love having them in the locker room, it’s incredible. It was a really cool experience.”

Trey Miguel said, “I do think it was definitely the biggest testament to follow your dreams. Seriously, if this doesn’t make you proud of every hard day you had to have, every goodbye you had to say, every injury you had a nurse for, if this moment right here doesn’t make it worth it, this is actually why you follow your dreams. That way, you can have this moment where you’re waking your best friend up because neither of you can remember where you are, and what’s happening.

Miguel continued, “The moment their music hit, I can’t tell you I’ve ever felt anything like that. I was baptized last December; it was comparable to that, and I don’t know how to replicate it. That’s just why you follow your dreams, so you can have a moment like that, you can’t buy it and you can’t sell it (…) it didn’t matter what happened between those bells, it takes my breath away, it really does. I don’t watch any match with any amount of pride (…)  it makes me emotional to think about what it meant to get to have the opportunity to share the ring with the Hardys, it’s just so crazy that it happened.”

TNA Plus Doubling Subscribers in 2024

TNA Wrestling has been on fire. The promotion’s TNA Plus subscriptions doubled in 2024. WWE and TNA announced a partnership in January 2025. No one can now ignore TNA and its talented wrestlers.

Zachary Wentz had this to say about it: “It’s just a testament to the hard work of the locker room, the writing team, and the production team. We are putting out one of the best products on television, and we can’t be denied. We have the show coming up on TNA Plus, Unbreakable, and that’s what TNA is,  it is very much unbreakable. I feel like everyone right now that everyone’s hitting on all cylinders, and we are continuously hitting on all cylinders. TNA is in such a stride and such a growing period right now. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, especially, who knows, maybe we do get a bigger TV deal and more of the world gets exposed to TNA. I think we are definitely a piece of the puzzle in the wrestling world that’s missing for some fans.”

Trey Miguel shared the sentiment, saying, “I think this is the coolest time in the world to be a wrestling fan. Honestly, there’s something for everyone. Did you ever think you’d see the day that we’d have this (WWE/TNA) partnership? How many times did you have to read on the internet some fake post about us getting bought out or something like that? How many times have you read that, but now we’re working together and we’re doing this thing. It’s the coolest time to be a fan, and it’s the coolest time to be a wrestler.”
