Dominik Mysterio to face John Cena for Intercontinental Championship

Could Dominik Mysterio Be The Next WWE Intercontinental Champion?

WWE WrestleMania 41 will be filled with a lot of amazing matches. Months-long feuds will be settled with amazing wrestling and, surely, some shocking winners. One of those could very well be Dominik Mysterio.

The results from WrestleMania 41 will surely lead into Backlash, which happens three weeks from Saturday. One of the biggest matches of Night 2 is the fatal four-way match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Bron Breakker will have to defend his title against Mysterio, Finn Balor, and Penta.

Like a triple threat match, the champion doesn’t have to be pinned to lose their title. A lot of things have happened over the last few weeks that make the match result unpredictable to many. Given everyone’s storylines at this point, it seems like Dominik Mysterio is the best choice to become the new Intercontinental Champion.

Here are some reasons why that result should happen on Sunday night.

Dominik Mysterio Winning Will Solidify His Backlash Opponent

For months, Balor has been at odds with the members of The Judgment Day. He has been very unhappy with the team’s results and their inability to listen to him. Mysterio has clashed with him several times, with Liv Morgan going behind his back to make decisions.

Morgan said that, with two Judgment Day members in the match, the likelihood of the title going back in their hands would be greater. But, for the storyline to take the next step, Mysterio has to win, and Balor has to get pinned. Doing so would make Balor leave The Judgment Day for good.

Balor would not only be on his own, but he’ll also get a title match handed to him by facing Mysterio for revenge at Backlash. Balor getting pinned by Mysterio on Sunday is logically the next chapter of the overall story of The Judgment Day.

Bron Breakker and Penta Will Get a Proper Feud

If Mysterio and Balor factor into the match’s ending, that leaves two people on the outside looking in. Those people are the current Intercontinental Champion and the man who wanted his title in the first place.

In his third week with WWE, Penta had a backstage confrontation with Bron Breakker. That interaction sparked speculation that he would challenge for the title at some point. However, when the match happened in London, things went very wrong.

Balor and Mysterio attacked both men, causing a disqualification. When they tagged together two weeks later against them, miscommunication cost them the victory. It’s clear that they have issues with each other, which could play a factor in the match’s outcome.

That would also set the stage for a feud for Backlash. Having Penta feud with Bron Breakker will help them shine without the potential of Judgment Day interference.

The Match Result Makes the Most Sense for Everyone

No matter what the result may be, the fatal four-way Intercontinental Championship match on Sunday will be action-packed and exciting. With that being said, Dominik Mysterio pinning Finn Balor is the logical result for many reasons.

Balor finally gets to break free from The Judgment Day as he views the pin as an act of betrayal. He’ll get a title shot at Backlash, allowing him to potentially be champion once again.

We’ll also get to see a one-on-one feud between Bron Breakker and Penta. Without the threat of The Judgment Day interfering, the two men can show the audience how well they play off of each other and work together.

If Dominik Mysterio wins the Intercontinental Championship on Sunday, he’ll have an immediate feud with Finn Balor while also allowing a proper Bron Breakker and Penta feud to happen.
