For months, people have been wondering what CM Punk’s favor to Paul Heyman was. On the April 4, 2025 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, it was finally revealed. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins were already in the ring, also wanting to know the details of the favor.
CM Punk’s music hit, and he came out to talk with everyone. He spoke about how Heyman was there for him when he was first starting in the wrestling business and how he was a true friend. Then he revealed the favor, which was that Paul Heyman was going to be in his corner at WrestleMania.
After some thinking and pleading from Reigns to say no, Heyman accepted Punk’s offer. Roman Reigns is without his wiseman for one of the biggest matches in his career. Now the question is if he truly needs Heyman to potentially win the match.
Paul Heyman Acts as Roman Reigns’ Security Blanket
When Roman Reigns came back in 2020, there was one man who was by his side. Paul Heyman helped him become the man that he is today. The Tribal Chief, the Head of the Table, the OTC, whatever you want to call him.
Heyman was front and center throughout his character transformation. He said in his promo that Heyman needed him, which is correct. Throughout all the years of the Bloodline, the only person he hasn’t berated or kicked out is Heyman.
That’s because he doesn’t view him as disposable. Up until this point, he expected blind loyalty from him without any hesitation. He knows that if he loses Heyman, he truly has no one left in his corner.
The Bloodline has moved on to their own business. Roman Reigns is alone without Paul Heyman, which is why he wanted him by his side and not with Punk.
Losing His Wiseman Will Motivate Him
Roman Reigns now has to do the impossible at WrestleMania. He has to look Paul Heyman in the eyes, knowing that he isn’t in his corner. Someone that he has trusted for years is now working with one of his most bitter rivals.
That infuriates him and makes him even angrier at his situation. But heightened emotions are what makes his character work so well. His outbursts and disposition help him become the dominant powerhouse that he is.
Some people would be sad at a betrayal of this size. It would definitely affect them inside the ring. But Reigns knows who he is – someone who brought WWE to another level.
Roman Reigns now wants to prove that Heyman made the wrong decision by choosing Punk. If he shakes off everything and performs at the level he is capable of, he wouldn’t need his wiseman to win the match.
Is Their Working Relationship Done For Good?
Paul Heyman has a storied history with both Roman Reigns and CM Punk. However, there is a difference in their names for him.
To Reigns, he is a wiseman, someone who advises him on what he should do. But to Punk, he is a best friend, someone who he can count on both inside and outside the ring.
There’s obviously a stronger bond between him and Punk. That’s why it remains to be seen if this is the true end for Heyman and Reigns. This could all be a trick between them, with a betrayal of Punk happening during the match.
That would confirm Heyman’s true loyalty. But there’s also a chance that Reigns was truly blindsided by his decision, breaking up what was a great team. Even though this arrangement is for one night, Roman Reigns could’ve already decided that his partnership with Paul Heyman is truly over.
