Preview: WWE SmackDown (1/31/25) – Last Stop Before Royal Rumble 2025

The final day of January marks the last destination before this Saturday night’s much anticipated year-starting Premium Live Event, known as the Royal Rumble. But before all that, no one in the WWE Universe should sleep on the WWE Royal Rumble 2025 “go-home” edition of WWE SmackDown. WWE did not pull any pushes when it comes to this one, providing its loyal fanbase with the brand of action they always expect every Friday night. Without further ado, let’s run down the full WWE SmackDown preview for January 31st, 2025.

WWE SmackDown Preview and Match Card – 1/31/25:

  • 8-Man Tag Team Match: Motor City Machine Guns & Los Garza vs. #DIY & Pretty Deadly
  • Women’s United States Championship Match: Chelsea Green (c) vs. Michin
  • Naomi vs. Liv Morgan
  • Jimmy Uso vs. Carmelo Hayes

8-Man Demolition Derby

The Motor City Machine Guns, after a long time earning the opportunity, will finally challenge #DIY for the WWE Tag Team Championship at WWE Royal Rumble 2025. This marks the first PLE outing for MCMG and their first real shot at regaining the gold after their rematch ended in a no-contest.

Apart from the two teams in this match, they will be tagging with the best the division has to offer in Los Garza and Pretty Deadly. Angel and Berto were dragged into this due to the lies of Pretty Deadly and, in turn, #DIY.

While not exactly friends in any sense of the word, Angel and Berto will be looking to exact some revenge on their enemies, even if it means tagging with rivals in the form of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. This is a crucial match for the Motor City Machine Guns and #DIY.

Whoever wins this could very well be walking into the Royal Rumble with momentum and confidence on their side. Sure, MCMG notched an impressive win over a very game Pretty Deadly last week. But another win under the belt will surely not hurt.

Will Motor City Machine Guns & Los Garza be able to co-exist long enough to score the win? Or will #DIY and Pretty Deadly ward off the onslaught to pick up the victory for themselves?

Time to Go Michin

On last week’s SmackDown, Michin, along with the help of B-Fab, scored a huge win over Piper Niven and Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green. After a hard-hitting and swift match between the opposing sides, Michin would catch Chelsea Green off-guard to hit her with an Eat Defeat and score the pinfall victory for her team and over the champ.

This statement victory clearly impressed the WWE higher-ups, granting Michin a shot at the Women’s United States Championship. The O.C. member was extremely close to being crowned the inaugural Women’s United States back at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event if it weren’t for the interference of Green’s close confidant, Piper Niven.

But now, Michin has backup with B-Fab by her side, and she can now focus solely on capturing the championship once and for all. Will Michin finally be able to call herself champion? Or will Chelsea Green, once again, find a way to keep the gold around her waist?

That concludes the SmackDown preview for January 31st, 2025! Let’s watch it all unfold this Friday night live on the USA Network and Netflix!
