Alexis Lete, former WWE wrestler, is hoping to ‘Beat the Banker’ and win over a million dollars as she joins the cast of Deal or No Deal Island season two, premiering on Tuesday, January 7th.
Who is Alexis Lete?
A former Miss Indiana and third-runner-up in the Miss America pageant, Alexis Lete was a former Division I volleyball player before she joined the August 2022 Performance Center recruiting class. Just over a year later, Lete was released before ever making her debut on TV. She later released a video explaining that before she found out about her release, she had decided to quit wrestling, realizing it just wasn’t for her.
“I didn’t always feel like I was meant to be in WWE, or at least a wrestler,” Lete said in her YouTube video. “I didn’t always think I was supposed to be a wrestler. It was early on, I didn’t pick it up really fast, I was kind of hesitant. I saw a lot of injuries, and by seeing a lot of injuries, I didn’t know if it was for me or not. I’m not going to lie, I’m a wimp. People in WWE are some badass people. They’re putting their life on the line, breaking their bones, finishing matches, getting staples in their head and they keep going. That’s so hardcore. That’s not me. I’m not hardcore. I wish I was, but I’m not. I’m a fragile little bean.”
Lete went on to add that she “loved WWE” and “had so much fun,” but she didn’t love wrestling. Instead, she was hoping she could find another role in the company as a show host or social media host. After conversations with people on those teams, Lete said she was shut down, told that if she didn’t seem passionate about wrestling that she would be fired. So Lete continued to show up, still hoping she could find a non-wrestling role with the company. As Lete recalled saying to herself, “I’ll keep working on my mic skills, maybe they’ll see me on the mic and be like, ‘You know what, head to the mic. That’s all you’re going to do. You’re going to be a valet and someone who is a talker. It’s okay if you don’t want to wrestle very often. That’s what I was hoping for.”
One day, Lete almost saw her dream come to fruition as she noted, “the head of NXT pulled me aside and was like, ‘you did a great job on the mic today. We’re really impressed. We’re going to put you on TV without having to wrestle.” Only to have that person later come back to her and say they had changed their mind and she wouldn’t be on TV until she was ready to wrestle. So Lete gave herself a 60-day challenge that if she didn’t make it onto Level Up by then, she was going to quit. But also in these 60 days, she was going to give it her all and go above and beyond to make wrestling work. For a while, it was clicking and Lete noted she started getting better and higher-ups started noticing. The only problem was she still didn’t love wrestling, no matter how much she tried to make herself do so. A few days later, Lete got a concussion in a match and that was pretty much a wrap on her WWE career. As she prepared to quit, she received the call she had been released. Lete expressed she was “so grateful for her time in WWE and grateful for God.”
Lete Looks to Beat the Banker
At the end of her video, Alexis Lete added that WWE was helping her try to get onto a reality show and it appears their efforts were not in vain as Lete is set to compete on Deal or No Deal Island.
NBC’s bio for Lete describes her as “an unforgettable force of confidence, bleeding brains and brawn with a passion for female empowerment. ” Noting she “has never shied away from a challenge,” Lete is described as currently being a “free-spirited artist,” who is “driven by her competitive spirit.” The bio ends by saying “Lete aims for nothing less than first place and dreams of using her winnings to move to New York and further expand her creative outlets.”
