A match graphic hyping up the Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royale for AEW Dynamite.

Preview: AEW Dynamite (12/4/24) – The Dynamite Dozen Battle Royal

With surprises during the opening round of the Continental Classic and a sense of direction heading to Worlds End, this week’s AEW Dynamite could serve up more than Thanksgiving leftovers. We might be supplied with another buffet of styles, clashes and developments.

Wednesday night, from Fishers, Indiana, the Continental Classic dishes out big hoss energy and supercharged athleticism, plus potential storyline developments. Swerve Strickland will likely embody the crowd in slapping sense in and out of Max Caster.

Two other interesting contests whose ramifications will shape the Worlds End card.

Do it one more time!

Banger of The Night: PAC vs Jay White

Two of AEW’s most slippery, conniving and snake-like ring generals go to war. After the beatdown by The Death Riders last week, The Switchblade is looking for revenge on his way to an AEW “Men’s” World Championship shot.

PAC is no weak link or stepping stone. Having competed in trios matches throughout most of November, this match will be a reminder to fans of why the Newcastle man is one of AEW’s most decorated wrestlers.

Compared to Jay White vs Christian Cage, where their defensive styles clotted rather than meshed, The Bastard’s stiff brutality should drive the match’s rhythm. If White is going to challenge for the world championship, he is going to take a kicking.

That’s not debatable. However, expect White’s particular brand of trap-setting wrestling to create some fun and surprising counters.

If anyone is going to be able to catch a snake, it’s another snake.

How the Death Riders and “Hangman” Adam Page respond or get involved before, during or after the match could lead to another striking visual.

Gamble of The Night: The Dynamite Dozen Battle Royal

Twelve men will fight it out for the right to challenge Maxwell Jacob Friedman at Winter is Coming for that beautiful Dynamite Diamond Ring. The one that has not left MJF’s finger over the past five years.

A weapon that has cost men championships and another means that’s allowed MJF to claim his position at the peak of AEW. Is it time for someone new to hold that prize?

My speculation earlier this year was definitely wrong. However, does MJF still need the ring?

Most recently, it cost Adam Cole his chance to face MJF at Full Gear. Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly were the first two entrants to announce they would take part. It seems like AEW again foreshadowing the final two.

The former stablemates and friends are at odds. Of the other ten participants, Lance Archer, Brian Cage, Kommander and Mark Davies will also be involved. Yet given Adam Cole’s obsession with MJF and O’Reilly’s proving in the past a battle royal specialist, does anyone else stand a chance?

It’s a gamble because the current revival of last year’s devil storyline feels, for some, like a bane rather than a boon in the current AEW landscape. We’ll see on Wednesday night if Cole and O’Reilly or someone else can make the audience care for the eventual showdown.
