Where Would TNA Wrestling Star Mustafa Ali Fit in AEW?

A photo of AEW All Out visitor and TNA Wrestling star Mustafa Ali.

Former WWE star Mustafa Ali appeared this past weekend at AEW All Out 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. Although Ali never appeared on screen, it was speculated that he was there visiting the show in his hometown.

Ali took to X, confirming the speculation in a video of him meeting fans outside the arena.

Does Mustafa Ali being at AEW All Out hint at his future involvement with the company? Where would Ali fit in AEW?

Independent Run

After leaving WWE in September of 2023, Ali has made a name for himself in the independent wrestling scene. He was one of the top high flyers in WWE but was only given significant opportunities after leaving the company—wrestling in various promotions such as Progress Wrestling, House of Glory, TNA, and many more.

He assumed the top guy position in many of these promotions, which he never got to do in WWE. Ali never won one championship in WWE, but after leaving, he was able to win the Dreamwave Alternative Championship and the TNA X-Division Championship.

If Ali ends up in AEW, he will likely have an incredible run. Using his high-flying nature, Ali has shown that he can have a phenomenal match despite his opponent’s wrestling style.

This and his years of experience can be used to help push new and upcoming wrestlers in the company. Whether the opponent wins or loses in the match,

Ali will help boost them both. AEW is spilling over with new talent that hasn’t been showcased; this is an opportunity to make everyone look great in a match.

Various dream matches will become possible if Ali decides to join AEW. Matches between Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, Will Ospreay, and many more would now become feasible.

Ricochet recently debuted in AEW; having similar wrestling styles, a match between Ali and Ricochet would be main-event-worthy. Also, with AEW using many stipulations in their matches, the possibilities are endless with the historic matches we could see involving Ali.

Championship Picture?

With his well-known name and talent, Ali will likely hold a title if he comes to AEW. However, that may not have been the case if it hadn’t been for his independent run over the past year and a half.

As I mentioned in this run, Ali won the TNA X-Division Championship, showing everyone he could be a champion in a major promotion. This was his first championship in a major wrestling promotion, which was successful as he held the title for five months. He did this while simultaneously holding the Dreamwave Alternative Championship for six months.

Seeing his run as champion in those promotions shows his potential to become a champion in AEW. If Ali came to AEW, it would make sense for him to start with a mid-card title, such as the Continental Championship or the TBS Championship, and work his way up to the World Title.

Ali has the potential to become a World Champion, but not having worked with AEW before; it would need to be seen how the AEW audience reacts to Ali and how he works in the company. However, we will have to wait and see if he can answer the question that we have all been asking: Will we see Mustafa Ali in AEW?
