Logan Paul Challenges Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes won the Undisputed Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40, with the entire WWE Universe getting to witness him achieve a goal he had been chasing for close to two years. Now, less than 50 days into his reign, he finds himself defending the gold against someone who is already within the championship ranks. Logan Paul currently holds the United States Championship but he aims to achieve double champ status at Rhodes’ expense.

Following the Backlash event, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis informed Rhodes that he already had his next challenger lined up. Initially, Rhodes and Paul had agreed to put both of their titles on the line in a winner-takes-all type of situation. Never without a trick up his sleeve, Paul managed to worm his way out of that agreement and only Rhodes’ title will be on the line in Jeddah.

Rhodes’ reign is only just getting started, and every defense counts, as it lays the foundation of what it will all culminate to be. Paul wants more power, and he understands that getting this title is the way to go about that. Rhodes will need to find a way to outsmart Paul otherwise his reign could have a premature ending.

King of the Ring Tournament Final

The King of the Ring tournament final is set to take place in Jeddah. At the time of writing, Gunther is the finalist from Raw. SmackDown will see Randy Orton and Tama Tonga clash on the May 24 show for a chance to qualify. But more than just the crown is on the line.
On May 23, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque announced that the winners of the men’s and women’s tournaments would have a guaranteed title shot at the 2024 SummerSlam. This serves as more of an incentive to win the tournament, and it shakes things up quite a bit. There is already an opportunity and a case for Gunther to win the tournament but Orton and Tonga still have to work their way there.
Orton has had issues with The Bloodline – both the old and the new – and that all comes to a head on the May 24 SmackDown. Orton will face Tonga, who recently joined the WWE and has been building himself up as a force to be reckoned with. This will be quite a telling match but, for whoever wins between Orton and Tonga, they still have to prepare for the looming threat that is the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion Gunther.

Queen of the Ring Tournament Final

Much like the King of the Ring tournament, the Queen of the Ring tournament final already has one finalist confirmed. Lyra Valkyria, who is a former NXT Women’s Champion, is the one to have pushed through to the final in Jeddah. But she will have quite the challenge awaiting her at the Saturday PLE as SmackDown‘s side will offer either Nia Jax or Bianca Belair.

Both dominant powerhouses, Jax and Belair both have strong cases to win the Queen of the Ring tournament, but they have to eliminate the other before they get there. When it’s all said and done though, they will step into the Jeddah Super Dome against the crafty Valkyria. Although a new addition to the main roster, Valkyria has proven herself to work well under pressure, and she is able to get it done when it matters most.

Valkyria defeated current Women’s World Champion Becky Lynch to claim the NXT Women’s Championship, and she will be going up against yet another established Superstar – whether it’s Jax or Belair. This will be an intriguing match to watch, as the current women’s championship scenes could get a massive spanner thrown into the works with whoever wins the Queen of the Ring tournament.
