Who Should WWE Sign Next?

AJ Lee and Paige at WWE WrestleMania 31.

WWE has had some major signings over the past couple of years. Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Jade Cargill, and The Good Brothers are just some of the big names that have returned to the New York company. It has been a great time for WWE and one that sees many surprises coming back to the company.

With two major returns taking place at Survivor Series, the wheels were spinning as to who would return to the company next. Who will WWE throw money at to get them back in the company? Let’s look at some candidates.

Paige

Currently known as Saraya in AEW, Paige made an improbable return to wrestling a little over a year ago. It was a great story that capped off a Women’s World Championship. A championship that had only been on her shoulders for 44 days.

After a serious neck injury, it was amazing to see Paige back in a wrestling ring, but AEW was not the place for it to happen. WWE needs to throw money at the Brit to get her back. She would greatly boost the women’s division and create some fantastic buzz.

AJ Lee

No one thought CM Punk would return. Now that he has the window open, his wife, ex-star AJ Lee, can make her return as well.

Lee was one of the best parts of a dark era. During her time, women’s wrestling wasn’t exactly something that was taken seriously. There was a terrible-looking Divas championship that was passed around to those who didn’t exhibit much wrestling skill. Her ability to put on entertaining matches and promos set her apart from everyone. It is these abilities that could prove useful against the wrestlers of today.

Mickie James

Filling out the wrestler’s wife’s section of this article is Mickie James. Her relationship with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis is well known and one that could see James make her way back to WWE.

James is one of the most famous female wrestlers in company history. She is a great worker and a veteran presence that could help some of the younger wrestlers on the roster. Mickie will match up well against anyone on Raw or SmackDown or could be beneficial in a producer role behind the scenes.

Ricky Starks

Ricky Starks is one of the best young talents on the AEW roster. He has exhibited excellent mic skills and has been able to hold his own in the ring. Along with Big Bill, he is the current holder of the tag championships, but that may be coming to an end. His contract is up in 2024 and has been on WWE’s radar.

Ricky has a personal relationship with Cody Rhodes, so it would make sense for the American Nightmare to urge him into WWE. It would be a great coup for the company to add an exciting young talent.

Matt Cardona

One of the best things that could have happened to Matt Cardona was getting released by WWE. His time with the company was fine, but he didn’t take off until he left. He has reinvented himself into one of the biggest stars of the Indies. Cardona is fantastic in his heel role. The Indy God has become a detestable character that could flourish in WWE.

Like Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes before him, Cardona could triumphantly return to WWE. Playing a heel would help to boost the mid-card and give him a chance at redemption. It also doesn’t hurt that his wife is currently one-half of the tag team champions.

AEW Gets Modern Masculinity

When it comes to AEW and their presentation of men and male relationships in storylines and characters, I don’t think the company gets enough credit. Sports generally
