#AndNEW: Lyra Valkyria Capture NXT Women’s Title from Becky Lynch

Lyra Valkyria at WWE NXT Halloween Havoc.

OrlandoNXT hosted Halloween Havoc night one, a week before the Halloween holiday, and the main event saw Black and Gold alum and standout Becky Lynch entering in as the NXT Women’s Champion facing off against a fellow countrywoman in Lyra Valkyria.

In a match that extended the time of a standard NXT telecast, Valkyria defeated Lynch with a surprising upset after a roll-up reverse of the “Manhandle Slam.” Lynch’s loss ends the reign at 42 days, making it the second shortest reign in the history of the championship.

Valkyria, formerly known as Aoife Valkyrie or Lady Valkyrie or Valkyrie Cain, trained under the same umbrella as the likes of her opponent Becky Lynch, and main roster standouts in Judgment Day’s JD McDonagh (former NXT Cruiserweight Champion) and founder of the Fight Factory Pro Wrestling, Fergal “Finn Balor” Devitt (Current Undisputed Tag Team Champion) as she became a standout in the British Independent Wrestling scene, fighting for Pro Wrestling: Eve as well as Over the Top Wrestling before signing to WWE as a part of the then-NXT UK brand.

Lyra would eventually be a part of the mainland NXT show on the 13th of December 2022 edition of the show, making her debut. Valkyria would get several opportunities for the title from the NXT Stand and Deliver Ladder Match and competing in the finals of the NXT Women’s Championship tournament losing to Tiffany Stratton at NXT Battleground.

Lyra’s victory makes her the 17th holder of the NXT Women’s Championship, this is Valkyria’s first-ever title under the WWE Umbrella.
