Preview: WWE Raw Tonight (04/17/23) – Monday Night Raw Card

It’s Monday. You know that means Monday Night Raw is tonight. Live from the Simmons Bank Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas. Formally the Alltel Arena and Verizon Arena, it’s notable for being the location of No Mercy in 2002. The event that saw Triple H defeat Kane to unify the World Heavyweight Championship and Intercontinental Championship with the infamous ‘Katie Vick’ angle. It also saw a fantastic match between Rey Mysterio and Edge against Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle to determine the first-ever WWE Tag Team Champions. The incarnation of the Tag Team Championships that would be exclusive to the Smackdown brand until 2010. And finally Brock Lesnar defeated The Undertaker to retain the WWE Championship in a Hell In A Cell match that was so brutal even Paul Heyman bled. Let’s take a look at the card for WWE Raw tonight.

WWE Raw Tonight Full Card

All-Mighty Aim

The All-Mighty winner of the Andre The Giant Battle Royal, Bobby Lashley, is set to take on the current United States Champion, Austin Theory, in a non-title match. This is not the first time these two meet as they feuded over the US title last year and inevitably, Austin Theory managed to slip away with the title. He’s fresh off wins over John Cena at WrestleMania and Rey Mysterio the Raw after. While Bobby Lashley seems to be stuck. Not getting to WrestleMania and when he met Bronson Reed last week, the match ends in a double count-out. Can Bobby Lashley finally escape this rut to maybe re-take the US title soon enough? Or will Austin Theory keep the momentum going?

The Beast Returns

The Beast Incarnate returns to the site of one his most impressive matches and he’ll be answering the challenge that was laid out by ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes. Last week Cody Rhodes was emphatic saying he did fear Brock Lesnar. But that was no excuse to back away from a fight. So he challenged him for Backlash. Will Brock Lesnar accept? I mean, he better. If reports that the Puerto Rico government wanted him on this card are to be believed. What a visual there. But, will Brock Lesnar explain why he brutally attacked Cody Rhodes? Was it really because he opened WrestleMania and just forgot the other time he did that? Or was it something else?

Trish Is Not Stratusfied

Last week, Trish Stratus substituted Lita to defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships alongside ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch. But they were bested by now Champions Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez. Trish specifically being pinned. In seeming frustration, the WWE Hall Of Famer attacked Becky Lynch and brushed off Byron Saxton when asked about her actions. Will she give an answer this week? Lets see.

More To Expect

As Backlash looms, we seem to see the card come together as Iyo Sky won a chance to challenge Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship, likely set for Backlash. This after she berated Bayley for not coming through on her promises regarding Damage CTRL. Hopefully, we have a full crew in tow this week, with no transportation issues as it seemed to leave a lot of people hanging coming off WrestleMania. The best example being Seth Rollins. A top star, who’s segment the Raw after was cut mid-commercial and missed last week. Plus, we need to see what happens between The Mysterio’s, The Judgment Day, LWO and Bad Bunny.

All that and more, on WWE Raw tonight.
