Does Masha Slamovich Title Win Open the Doors To Possibilities?

Masha Slamovich GCW

Masha Slamovich did something no other woman has done in GCW. She became GCW Champion, a goal that she set out for herself. GCW is one of the biggest independent promotions in the United States. Let’s examine the implications of Masha becoming GCW Champion.

Does Masha Slamovich Winning Open More Possibilities?

Slamovich defeated Nick Gage for the GCW World Championship at the Eye for an Eye event last Friday. She is the first female to win the title and she did so by choking out Gage. Gage had defeated Jon Moxley in a career vs title match at the 2022 GCW Fight Club event. Gage would go on to hold the title for over five months.

All of this makes it an amazing accomplishment for Masha Slamovich. She set the bar extremely high for the promotion and herself. She worked hard to get to this point and now has to work harder to keep that top spot. While this win stunned some, others thought it was possible through her work ethic and willingness to never give up. As an accomplished female wrestler, this is a moment she had been waiting for.

Those Who Paved the Way for Masha

Although she is the first female GCW champion, there have been other females to win titles that were a first for a female wrestler. Chyna had won the WWF Intercontinental Championship, Molly Holly, Terri Runnels, Cynthia Lynch, and Trish Stratus won the WWF Hardcore championship, Madusa and the late Daffney previously won the WCW Cruiserweight title, Maria Kanellis and Kelly Kelly won the WWE 24/7 championship, and Jacqueline won the WWE Cruiserweight title.

This is an impressive list of some talented female wrestlers. However, this list is a few years old as this had not been done in a while until Masha Slamovich won the heavyweight title from Cage. Also, these are “secondary” championships and not the World Championship.  Could this mean that more women like Masha Slamovich in the near future are now going to get an opportunity to win a promotion’s biggest title? Can Rhea Ripley compete against Roman Reigns?  Would Jordynne Grace dethrone Josh Alexander?

Anything can happen in the world of professional wrestling. This may be the perfect opportunity for these types of matches to happen on a regular basis. The women may not have to win the championship but put them on that stage and see how they would perform. It would be a different stage for them but it would be an opportunity to see how they would fare against someone at the top of the wrestling world. Some people may like the idea of this happening, while others may not like the idea of a woman against a man inside the squared circle.

Whether this happens in WWE, Impact Wrestling, AEW, or in promotions like GCW, or MLW, this could be the new thing in wrestling.
