Grayson Waller outlasted Axiom, Joe Gacy, JD McDonagh, and Carmelo Hayes to win the Men’s Iron Survival Challenge Match at NXT Deadline on Saturday night, earning himself an opportunity at the NXT Championship.

The match was at two falls apiece for Axiom, Gacy, Hayes, and Waller heading into the final minute while McDonagh had zero. With 40 seconds left, Waller managed to steal a fall from Hayes by pinning Axiom after the former NXT North American Champion hit his signature Top Rope Leg Drop to the back of Axiom’s head.
Waller will now have a chance to challenge for the NXT Championship in the future. There’s no word as to when that match will be taking place. NXT New Year’s Evil was announced for January 10, so it’s possible that could be the date that the Men’s Iron Survivor gets his match.
The Iron Survivor Challenge is a new match where five competitors compete to earn the most falls in the match. The match is much like IMPACT Wrestling’s King of the Mountain but without a ladder and more inspired by an Ironman match as it had a 25-minute time limit. If a competitor was pinned, they were forced into the penalty box for 90 seconds. Roxanne Perez won the women’s match earlier in the night.
