The TNT Championship will be defended on the October 5 episode of AEW Dynamite. Wardlow issued an open challenge via Twitter on October 3, daring someone to challenge him for the gold on the Dynamite anniversary.

AEW President Tony Khan subsequently announced that Brian Cage answered the call so that Wardlow will defend the title against him on Wednesday night.
As a result, the October 5 episode of AEW Dynamite will feature Cage’s first singles match on AEW television since he lost to Ricky Starks on AEW Rampage: Grand Slam on October 8, 2021. He recently returned to AEW when he competed in the Grand Slam Golden Ticket Battle Royal on AEW Rampage: Grand Slam. He also wrestled on the October 3 episode of AEW Dark: Elevation.
During AEW Dark Elevation, Brian Cage accepted Wardlow’s open challenge for the TNT Championship.

Wardlow has been the defending champion since he beat Scorpio Sky on the July 6 episode of AEW Dynamite. He has defended the title against Orange Cassidy, Jay Lethal, Ryan Nemeth, and Tony Nese.
