Tyrus Vacates NWA World Television Championship, Will Challenge for World Title

Tyrus Vacates NWA World Television Championship

On the September 24 episode of NWA USA, Tyrus announced that he will be vacating the NWA World Television Championship. Joe Galli interviewed Tyrus prior to the show, asking what was next for the TV titleholder. Tyrus stated that he was undefeated leading up to NWA 74 this past August, where he unsuccessfully challenged Trevor Murdoch for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. However, Tyrus claimed that he “hesitated.” He followed up by saying he wanted to win the title “the right way” to become “Two-Strap Tyrus.” Ultimately, Tyrus said that he would give up what he loved most, the NWA TV title, to win the NWA world title. To do so, Tyrus vacated the NWA World Television Championship. By cashing in “Lucky 7,” Tyrus has been added to the NWA Hard Times in New Orleans main event for the Worlds Heavyweight Championship, making it a three-way match between Tyrus, Murdoch, and Matt Cardona.

What to Know Prior to Upcoming NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title Challenge

The NWA World Television Championship comes with a stipulation that, following 7 successful title defenses, the champion could “cash in” their title for an opportunity at the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. Since winning the TV title in August 2021, Tyrus has successfully defended it against all comers, defeating such names as Mims, Cyon, and Rodney Mack. All the while, he became one of the most dominant competitors in the National Wrestling Alliance, the aforementioned loss to Trevor Murdoch at NWA 74 being a rare instance when the former TV titleholder was bested.
