Preview: AEW Rampage Card (9/9/22) – ROH World Title on The Line

AEW Rampage Card

AEW continues its post-All Out week at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. The arena that saw the WWE step in in 2005 for the Great American Bash where JBL defeated Batista, believe it or not, by disqualification. World Heavyweight Championship was on the line, but did not change hands. It was also the end of the Muhammud Hassan character, when Undertaker not only defeated him, but wrote him off TV with a Last Ride through the stage. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the AEW Rampage card for this week.

Twisted Metal Wrap-Up

After several months, Samoa Joe made his return to AEW at All Out, saving FTR and Wardlow from long-standing rival Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh. Samoa Joe wrapped up filming for the TV series ‘Twisted Metal’, which is based on a video game franchise. Where he played the role of franchise lead, Sweet Tooth.

Tonight on Rampage, the current ROH TV Champion will speak. This will likely give us the direction for Samoa Joe as of his return. Are we really going back to his long feud with Jay Lethal? Or is it something else now? We’ll find out tonight.

The Professor vs The Queen

We get a clash between two veteran women’s wrestlers as the long-standing TNA Knockout’s veteran, Madison Rayne goes face to face with the former Straight Edge Society member. Both women have the distinction of having participated in the WWE Mae Young Classic. Now, they get to clash one on one. It’s Serena’s first major match since losing to Mercedes Martinez at the Death Before Dishonor show.

Let’s see what happens. Hopefully, we get to see something for both women as the division has been feeling very scarce as of late.

Grand Slam Tournament Of Champions

The AEW Championship was vacated as a consequence of the drama at All Out’s media scrum. A tournament was announced and set to finish at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. We already saw Bryan Danielson defeat Hangman Page in the first match of the tournament and will face Chris Jericho at an All Out rematch next week.

On the other side of the bracket, we have a meeting of the longest reigning TNT Champion and the one who has held it most times currently in AEW. As long-standing rivals now face off with the chance to go on and fight for the World title.

On Dynamite, Darby Allin said he would not go out with Sting and as such dared Sammy Guevara to wrestle by himself as opposed to having the aid of the Jericho Appreciation Society. It worked for Daniel Garcia. Who is now the ROH Pure Champion. But can the other JAS young stud do the same? Or go the opposite route in the midst of this moral dispute Garcia has with his own group? The winner of this match will face Jon Moxley on Dynamite.

ROH World Title Match

Claudio Castagnoli defends his ROH World Championship again this week. This time, he faces one-half of the ROH Tag Team Champions. One-half of the IWGP Tag Team Heavyweight Champions. One-half of the AAA Tag Team Champions. The man who has been absolutely phenomenal all year round: Dax Harwood.

Half of FTR gets a crack at a FOURTH title belt in what will likely be a fantastic match while Claudio continues to shine and hold the brass ring of Ring Of Honor while continuing to do the Blackpool Combat Club proud.

All that and more on tonight’s AEW Rampage card.
