#AndNEW: Mayu Iwatani Makes History in Fukuoka

Mayu Iwatani entrance

At Fukuoka Goddess Festival two championships changed hands out of the three on the line. It was a good day for STARS as FWC regained the Goddess of Stardom Championship, meanwhile Mayu Iwatani won the SWA Championship and made history in the process.

#AndNEW: FWC & Mayu Iwatani Win Championships at Fukuoka Goddess Festival

The first major STARS win was Koguma and Hazuki regaining the tag titles in their hometown. The Goddess of Stardom tag league winners first captured the titles in January from Alikaba before losing them to Starlight Kid and Momo Watanabe at Stardom World Climax. Kid and Watanabe only managed one defense of the titles before losing to the hometown heroes.

Grand Slam Mayu Iwatani

Mayu Iwatani became just the second grand slam champion in Stardom history when she defeated Thekla for the SWA Championship. The Stardom original, affectionately dubbed the Icon of Stardom, challenged for the title with the aim of competing the grand slam and duly delivered.  Mayu Iwatani joins Stardom legend Io Shirai in the record books as the only people to hold every eligible championship in Stardom (Wonder of Stardom, World of Stardom, SWA, High Speed, Artist & Goddess titles). Neither woman held the Future of Stardom Championship but neither woman was eligible for the championship upon its introduction.

Iwatani will likely defend the championship overseas as there are a limited number of challengers available to her in Japan.
