Preview: AEW Dynamite (5/4/22) – Purrazzo vs Martinez, ROH Women’s World Title Match

AEW Dynamite Featuring Deonna Purrazzo vs Mercedes Martinez

The month of May starts blazing hot with another edition of All Elite Wrestling’s premiere Wednesday night wrestling show, AEW Dynamite. Let’s preview the action for this week’s AEW Dynamite – the Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship will be up for grabs as “rightful” champion Deonna Purrazzo faces off against interim champion Mercedes Martinez, winner takes all. A grudge match between “The Sports Entertainer” and a former cohort from The Inner Circle transpires on this night.

Plus, the Blackpool Combat Club looks to continue their winning ways against a trio from the AFO. There’s a lot more where that came from, as AEW looks to start a brand new month on the right note. It’s Wednesday night after all, and you know what that means! Time for some Dynamite! Let’s run it down.

Full AEW Dynamite Match Card:

  • The Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament – Qualifier: Jeff Hardy vs. Bobby Fish
  • Wardlow vs. MJF’s Mystery Opponent
  • ROH Women’s World Championship – “Champion vs. Champion”: Deonna Purrazzo (c) vs. Mercedes Martinez (Interim)

  • Grudge Match: Chris Jericho vs. Santana

The Only Champion: Deonna Purrazzo vs Mercedes Martinez on AEW Dynamite

The time has come, and it all goes down this Wednesday night. ROH Women’s World Champion Deonna Purrazzo seeks to be undisputed as she faces off against interim champion, “The OG Badass” Mercedes Martinez. This showdown was inevitable, especially when Mercedes won the gold at Supercard of Honor XV, defeating the formidable and excellent Willow Nightingale.

Martinez would silence the naysayers by stating that she went through hell and back to capture the title, and the moniker of “interim champion” should not be placed anywhere near her name. She is ready to fight tooth and nail and seeks, not only to retain the title but also to spoil the AEW debut of “The Virtuosa.” There can only be one; who will it be? Find out this Wednesday night only on Dynamite!

No Love Lost: Chris Jericho Battles Santana

After the horrendous attack on Eddie Kingston on last week’s DynamiteSantana seeks retribution for his friend as he faces off against former teammate, turned bitter enemy Chris Jericho. One-half of Proud and Powerful showed exactly what would happen if you mess with him and the people he cares for. On last week’s AEW Rampage, Jericho would be blindsided, during his commentary duties, when he was brutally beaten down by a livid Santana.

Not long after the assault, Jericho laid down the gauntlet for this week’s Dynamite; Jericho wants Santana in a Grudge Match. The match was made official the very same night, and it will definitely not be your standard wrestling contest. These two went through violent wars together, and now, it’s one wanting to end the other. Prepare yourselves for a battle; these two will not let up until they’ve done what they came to do. Will Santana lay down the beating of a lifetime? Or will Chris Jericho annihilate his once close friend? Tune into TNT live to find out!
