Preview: Titan Championship Wrestling – Monsoon – The 2 Year Anniversary (1/8/22)

Titan Championship Wrestling Monsoon The 2 Year Anniversary Full Card

Titan Championship Wrestling will present the Monsoon The 2 Year Anniversary show on January 8th. One of the best parts about Titan Championship Wrestling that isn’t seen enough in wrestling these days is that they have this variety of talent and styles they display. A lot of it just feels so home-based within the company. Yes, there are wrestlers on their shows who have that veteran and more well-known appeal. There are also wrestlers who travel and wrestle outside of the promotion as well.

A lot of other promotions can feel like they cherry-pick the wrestlers they want from other promotions to come in and then they create this sort of super card of independent talent without having any homegrown stars of their own. For the past two years, Titan Championship Wrestling has spent time blending those wrestlers you know by name with some that you might not but should and then added in their own level of future stars. So while some of the names on this show might be more well known than others, the fact remains that eventually all of these names will be well known if they continue to put the work in. As Titan Championship Wrestling continues to provide a stage to some of the best talents within the New Jersey+ wrestling scene. Let’s run down the Titan Championship Wrestling Monsoon The 2 Year Anniversary card.

“El Unico” Chris Barton vs. “The Spartan Pitbull” Nikos Rikos

When it comes to Titan Championship Wrestling, they could be thought of as being where the big boys play. Many independent promotions seem to rely on the high-flying style of smaller wrestlers. Which is fine, but so many of the athletes in TCW are just physically larger than life. “El Unico” Chris Barton is no exception to this. He is not the type of wrestler one would want to find themselves across the ring from because he is rather powerful. However, if anyone can get the best of Chris Barton it would be Nikos Rikos. This should be a fantastic match that helps elevate the careers of both of these wrestlers.

Eric Brooks and Jack Raymond vs. “The American Kajiu” Big Jeff Noyze

The debuts of Eric Brooks and Jack Raymond didn’t go exactly as they had planned at Mt Olympus thanks to Big Jeff Noyze. The two wrestlers decided to take on their party crasher in a 2 on 1 match at Monsoon. Typically, having two wrestlers versus one wrestler would give the team of two wrestlers the advantage, but it still seems like Jeff Noyze could just plow through these two with the greatest of ease. This is one of those rare cases where two wrestlers defeating one would be an upset. If Eric Brooks and Jack Raymond were wise they would just stay home.

Ben Castle vs. Frankie Pickard

In November, Ben Castle made his debut in the rumble match at Mt Olympus. After this match, he was confronted by Frankie Pickard which lead to Ben Castle challenging Frankie Pickard to a match at Monsoon! Frankie Pickard has some matches under his belt in promotions such as H2O, but that can only seem to fire up Ben Castle who is hell-bent on making his name known in 2022. This is going to be an evenly matched fight with both wrestlers coming out with bigger names for themselves.

Pure Rules Match: Killian McMurphy vs. Josh Adams

During the summer of 2021, Ring of Honor really seemed to be hitting its stride when it came to bringing in new talent that clicked well in ROH. One name which did not make it into ROH but rightfully should have (and might have by now had ROH not taken a hiatus) is Killian McMurphy. Whether you know Killian McMurphy for his cinematic matches or that terrific Garfield dub over promo he just posted for a match against Allie Katch at Invictus Pro Wrestling, the fact is that Killian McMurphy can go inside of that ring. There might not be a brighter mind in the pro wrestling world today.

However, Josh Adams was also going into this match planning to face Preacher Finneus James who is no longer on the card. Whether or not the game plan of Josh Adams changes is an interesting idea. The plan for both of these competitors is to shoot and try to win. In what should be an incredible match, these two are going to have a lot of people talking after this match comes to an end.

Steve “Monsta” Mack vs. Anthony Gangone

Steve “Monsta” Mack and Anthony Gangone are both veterans in the promotion. Anthony Gangone, who has appeared in AEW and just had a hell of a match in Wrestlers’ Lab against MV Young. Gangone is looking to climb the ranks for an eventual title shot while Monsta Mack wants that title back. At the end of this one, whoever it is that emerges victorious will have earned a hard-fought victory.

Goddess Championship Match: “The Gladiator of the Geeks” Riley Shepard (c) vs. The Notorious Mimi

Riley Shepard has spent most of her time in TCW trying to capture the Goddess Championship from Vicious Vicki. She captured the belt from Vicki in 2021. Riley Shepard will now defend her Championship against a former Champion in The Notorious Mimi who has been all over the place lately (including an AEW appearance). Perhaps the only thing tougher than Riley Shepard fighting to win the Goddess Championship is going to be anyone trying to take that Championship away from her. The Notorious Mimi has proven she has what it takes to be the Goddess Champion, but will it be enough to defeat Riley Shepard? This match will be intense but at the end of it the words being spoken in the ring might very well be “And still”.

TCW Hardcore Championship Match: MERC (c) vs. Lowlife Louie

While fans might be more familiar with the Merc from Missouri, this Champion is Military Expert Romeo Castillo. Romeo Castillo very much has the look and feel of a real-life G.I. Joe and is a USMC Veteran so he isn’t only playing the part but he is living it.

Lowlife Louie is not the person you want on the other side of the ring from you in a match under Hardcore Rules. Lowlife Louie is responsible for some of the most violent matches you will ever see. This is going to look and feel like a war with the fans coming out the true winners after all the dust settles. It is going to take a lot to pry that title from the hands of MERC.

TCW Middleweight Championship Match: Rick Recon (c) vs. “The Psycho Lucha” Smiley

Rick Recon is the TCW Middleweight Champion for a reason, but there isn’t really a way to prepare someone like Smiley. Smiley is one of the most creative and yet unpredictable wrestlers out there today. He puts out moves that opponents not only have never seen before but never even thought were possible. Smiley is going to bring the fight to Rick Recon and this will be a title fight for sure.

Inaugural TCW Tag Team Championship Gauntlet Match: The Now vs. Ross and Bradley vs. The Faceless Ones vs. The Front-Line vs. A Mystery Team

Perhaps the most telling part of this Tag Team Championship Gauntlet Match is the mystery team. While the other teams might be able to prepare for each other, how would they go about preparing for the unknown? Especially if the mystery team is revealed last, then they also have the advantage of being fresh. If any team is in line for gold this year though it would be The Front Line, as PJ Savage himself just seems to be primed to have a year, that mystery factor still has to weigh the heaviest when considering who will be crowned the first-ever TCW Tag Team Champions.

TCW Heavyweight Championship Match: “The Dark Horse” Johnny Moran (c) vs. “The Alpha Dog” Adam Chandler

Johnny Moran just won the TCW Heavyweight Championship from Steve “Monsta” Mack so the idea of him losing it in his first defense seems unlikely. However, if anyone can take it to Johnny Moran and potentially capture that title in a way that doesn’t feel like an upset it would be Adam Chandler. This match will provide a good test for Johnny Moran as Champion. If Johnny Moran deserves to be in that top spot, then he will win this match. Adam Chandler is most certainly looking to prove that he belongs in that spot and not Johnny Moran.
