WWC Clears Out YouTube Channel as LAWE Signs Their Universal Champion

LAWE Wrestling

The speculation regarding WWC & LAWE on the island of Puerto Rico continues. This past Friday, WWC took down all of their content from their YouTube channel, as usual, with no explanation offered. On their Facebook page, they promoted their one and only first-run program for the past 3 months, “La Descarga Del Wizard” (The Wizard’s Rant) to be uploaded to a new YouTube channel dedicated specifically to the show. A ‘taped-at-home’ talk show where WWC’s long-standing color commentator rants about real-life issues on Puerto Rico and also riff interviews various wrestlers. As usual, any questions by fans regarding WWC’s status are just ignored. We don’t even know if WWC’s now usual rerun content will air this Sunday on Wapa TV as its Saturday slot has been pretty much been taken over completely by SmackDown even though it was still being produced weekly.

Meanwhile, LAWE has announced various signings. Half of them are local wrestlers such as Espiritu Dojo’s owner and head trainer Mike Mendoza, former WWL Champion and AEW Dark wrestler Angel Fashion as well as none other than WWC’s current Universal Champion, Gilbert. Gilbert won the championship by defeating Orlando “Epico” Colón at what was supposed to be WWC’s big Pay-Per-View debut, which instead turned into a 4-part TV special back in January, this is the same title that was created when Ric Flair opted mid-match to lose the NWA World title to Carlos Colon out of fear of fan-backlash decades ago. Though their weirdest announced signing is “La Pesadilla”. A masked wrestler. What makes this an odd announcement is that the man who used this character was none other than Orlando Colon in a major storyline from 2008 which culminated in his unmasking.

LAWE has also announced talent from AEW & IMPACT! Wrestling. Their first major announcement had just made his AEW debut in Andrade El Idolo. Secondly, Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson, The Good Brothers, were announced as the company’s first official team.

All in all, we still remain totally clueless as to the future of WWC, but this continues to fuel the fire that the end goal is for LAWE to absorb WWC. Whether it’s a mutual desire by the second generation Colons and WWC’s president Victor Jovica or if Orlando, Stacy, and Eddie Colon will simply continue to showcase their superiority as a legitimate corporation to eventually push the stubborn WWC owner to finally pass the baton by force to the next generation. TV deals, event dates, and other details still just remain a complete mystery as any leaked details are just stonewalled and only confirmed at their leisure. Several weeks ago, Facebook page Wrestling DOM reported that WWC Universal Champion was signed to LAWE though it hadn’t been announced. A week later, Contralona, via a LAWE-produced vignette, made the announcement claiming it was “Breaking News”. It was a similar case with the very revelation of the promotion as a lot of details were already revealed a month prior to its formal announcement and stonewalled with the same “Breaking News” tag despite said news already being reported.
