Preview: AEW Dynamite (5/19/21) – NWA World Women’s Championship on the Line

AEW Dynamite 5/19/21

Even as Double or Nothing is fast approaching for All Elite Wrestling, they have not lifted their foot off the gas pedal one bit. On this week’s AEW Dynamite, fans will be treated to two championship matches and it can not get any better than this. Another top promotion’s women’s championship will be contested on AEW soil. The AEW World Tag Team Championship will be contested, pitting the champions against two of the brightest stars in the promotion. We shall also celebrate the new TNT Champion’s win last week as we hear from him for the very first time since winning the network’s title.

Every week feels like a big-time event and no wrestling fanatic is complaining anytime soon. Another Wednesday night is upon us and you know what that means – it’s time for another exciting edition of AEW Dynamite. AEW has scheduled many things that fans can sink their teeth into. With that being said, let’s not keep anyone waiting any longer and run down Wednesday night’s wild ride.

An Open Contract Means an Open Challenge

Since returning to full-time in-ring action, Christian Cage has won both of his matches. The veteran has not lost a step, proving to everyone that he indeed has still got it. He defeated Frankie Kazarian in his debut match on AEW television and followed that up with an inspiring effort and win against the mastodon, Powerhouse Hobbs. Hot off the heels of Cage’s “Out. Work. Everyone” mantra, Taz has tried and failed to recruit Cage into the fold. “The Human Suplex Machine” has persuaded and pleaded that Christian Cage join forces with him and Team Taz, but to no avail.

Taz did not take the decision well when Cage ultimately refused the opportunity of a lifetime to join the destructive unit. According to Christian Cage, he does not need anyone to follow; he is his own man. Taz and his boys took exception to this. Taz unleashed Powerhouse Hobbs on Cage a number of weeks ago, with the veteran narrowly surviving the beast.

Most feel like the animosity between Team Taz and Christian Cage is not quite over. On last week’s AEW Dynamite, Cage took it upon himself to tell Taz that he took Hobbs head-on and came out of the other side victorious. If Taz chooses to do so, he can pick anyone from his collective, and Christian promises to do the same to them. Cage also said he is personally declaring himself for the Casino Battle Royale for Double or Nothing in hopes of a world title opportunity.

Cage went on to say shortly thereafter that he signed an open contract with AEW, meaning he gets to choose anyone he wants to face or give a willing participant the choice to challenge him in a match; this is exactly what Matt Sydal did. Sydal stated that a match with one of Team Taz’s members will not be happening this week. Sydal signed the contract and he wants a shot at “The Instant Classic.” Cage welcomes all comers and he’s not about to refuse a fight against Sydal on this week’s Dynamite. Will Matt Sydal fly his way into a monumental victory or will Christian Cage hit The Killswitch and come out the winner?

A Home-Cooked but Not so Serene Showdown

Under the AEW banner, Red Velvet continues to impress every week. For the promotion, she has racked up ten straight wins, further cementing her place among the elite of the AEW’s women’s division. Her hard work has paid off in spades as she received a shot at the NWA Women’s World Championship against a returning Serena Deeb. The champion has not competed on AEW since February 17th of this year, and will surely be ready to rumble come Wednesday night. Velvet has been nothing short of a spitfire every night she comes out to compete. Fans love her for that exact reason. Winning the NWA Women’s Championship will be a huge accolade to put on Velvet’s wrestling resume if she manages to pull it off.

Rest assured that Deeb will not make this easy on her. Serena Deeb has defeated the best of the best to continue her reign as champion. The list includes Tay Conti, Leyla Hirsch, Allysin Kay, and fan-favorite as well as fierce rival, Thunder Rosa. Deeb has experience on her side being a seasoned 16-year veteran of the industry. She knows the ins and outs of the ring unlike any other. Every possible trick in the book she has executed. Being in this profession for so long benefits Deeb in this title defense. Velvet might be in for a rude awakening come Dynamite.

Red Velvet better learn fast and whip out new tricks the veteran is not expecting if she ever hopes to score the upset. Will Serena Deeb come out of this title defense business as usual and emerge a winner or will Velvet cash in on the opportunity and win the big one?
