Scorpio Sky Wins Face of the Revolution Ladder Match at AEW Revolution

Scorpio Sky Face of the Revolution

AEW‘s big show, Revolution, was nothing short of revolutionary, boasting the biggest matches and surprise moments of 2021 thus far. Arguably one of the most talked-about of these matches, both coming into and out of the show, was the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match. In this match, 6 men competed for the opportunity to face Darby Allin for the TNT Championship at this week’s Dynamite.

Prior to the match, 5 of the competitors were made official, with the final spot in the match reserved for a mystery competitor. This is a popular tactic by AEW, who have in the past used this mystery match spot to create huge moments for the likes of  Hangman Adam Page and Brian Cage. The shocking 6th entrant turned out to be former IMPACT Wrestling star “All Ego” Ethan Page, who managed to perform some incredible offense, including a razor edge, before being taken out by a nostalgia-inducing clothesline by Jake “The Snake” Robert. The other 5 participants included Penta El Zero MiedoLance Archer, Max Caster, Cody Rhodes, and Scorpio Sky.

Cody Rhodes was built as the favorite to win the match, being the only man to have already won the TNT Championship. Despite being taken out for half of the match, he dominated a good portion. However, the “American Nightmare” was eventually outmatched by the eventual winner, former AEW World Tag Team Champion Scorpio Sky. In an incredibly poetic and almost meta moment, Sky pushed Cody Rhodes off of a ladder to grab the brass ring and become the face of the Revolution.

It has been over a year since Scorpio Sky broke away from his former tag team stable in So Cal Uncensored. Since then, he has racked up a good amount of wins and defeated a bitter rival in Shawn Spears. He has officially “reached for the sky” and earned himself a spot at the top of the mountain, as it will now be Darby Allin versus Scorpio Sky this Wednesday night on Dynamite for the TNT championship. While this match is sure to be a memorable one, it is questionable the state Allin will be in after his brutal street fight with Sting against Brian Cage and Ricky Starks of Team Taz. However, Allin will have no choice, as AEW Owner Tony Khan has stated that if he does not make his defense against Sky on Wednesday, he will be forced to vacate his TNT championship.
