Report: Eli Drake Signs With WWE

Eli Drake NXT WWE

According to PWInsider, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has signed another major free agent. That free agent is none other than former IMPACT World Champion, Eli Drake. Drake, 38, was most recently signed to the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and was a key member of their show, Powerrr, before it had to seize filming last year. PWInsider adds that he was quietly released from his contract last year.

Eli Drake Signs With WWE

This will not be Drake’s first time as a member of the WWE roster, as he was signed to a developmental contract before leaving in 2014. Since then, he has found plenty of personal success including being the IMPACT World Champion in 2018. His most recent title reign was alongside James Storm in NWA as they held the NWA World Tag Team Championships for 291 days before dropping them to Aron Stevens and JR Kratos on an episode of the United Wrestling Network on Nov. 11, 2020. That was his final match for the company.

Drake gets a lot of love for his work on the microphone and inside the squared circle, something that could be of major use to him now that he is in WWE. He didn’t waste any time, either. During the preshow of NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day, Drake interrupted Sam Roberts and the other members of the panel. With his trademark charisma on display, he made it clear that he would be going by a new name: LA Knight. After some insults thrown at said panel, including Wade Barrett, the newly christened Knight took his leave. His segment was brief but he left an impression.
