#AndNEW: Keiji Mutoh Wins the GHC Heavyweight Championship

Keiji Mutoh GHC Heavyweight Champion

Keiji Mutoh  – or as others know him, The Great Muta – is a legend in every sense of the word. At 58 years old, he had a chance to make history and he did that. At Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Back To Budokan event, he got back to the top of the wrestling mountain. Mutoh defeated Go Shiozaki for the GHC Heavyweight Championship in the main event of the show. This is Mutoh’s first GHC Heavyweight Title win.

Keiji Mutoh set his sights on the GHC Heavyweight Championship when he came to NOAH officially last year. His promotion Wrestle-1 shut down, so he had some free time on his hands. That’s when he was brought to NOAH on a regular basis. He picked up some big singles win to fully establish himself as a contender before making his challenge in December. After winning the belt at Back To Budokan, Mutoh was challenged by Kaito Kiyomiya after Go Shiozaki denied him of a handshake.

Keiji Mutoh becomes the third man to capture the AJPW Triple Crown, IWGP Heavyweight, and GHC Heavyweight Championships; the other two were Kensuke Sasaki and Yoshihiro Takayama. However, he is the very first one to hold the puroresu triple crown and the NWA World Championship.
