At the conclusion of Monday Night Raw, Drew McIntyre defeated Keith Lee to successfully retain his WWE Championship in a true match of brutality. As he grabbed the microphone to seemingly thank the legends who appeared for Raw Legends Night, the music of Goldberg hit as the former two-time Universal Champion made his way down to the ring. He got into the face of McIntyre, telling him that he lacked respect. And McIntyre seemed a bit surprised until Goldberg challenged him to a match at the Royal Rumble for the WWE Championship. Things eventually got heated, as the show went off the air with Goldberg shoving McIntyre down.

The timing of this is shocking, as Goldberg had teased on WWE’s The Bump recently that it was Roman Reigns that he wanted a piece of. Clearly, that was all a smoke screen for what he really wanted — to humble McIntyre once and for all. What also was rather stunning was McIntyre giving into Goldberg’s words.
“You couldn’t beat me. Honestly, fighting you would be like fighting my own dad, mate!”
The tensions were high as Goldberg will represent the past against WWE’s present in Drew McIntyre. This match would be Goldberg’s first since losing the Universal Championship last year at WrestleMania 36 to Braun Strowman.
Considering the fans’ resentment towards the former in the past, McIntyre should have the WWE Universe behind him.
