Zelina Vega Released By WWE

WWE News Zelina Vega Released by WWE

Earlier today, World Wrestling Entertainment announced the release of SmackDown Superstar Zelina Vega. WWE published an article detailing the news and shared the story on its various social media channels. In regard to Vega’s release, WWE made the following statement:

“WWE has come to terms on the release of Zelina Vega. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

To say that this news came at an interesting time would be an understatement. Prior to WWE making this announcement, Vega took to her personal Twitter account to tweet the statement, “I support unionization.” Whether this had a direct impact on WWE’s decision to release the Superstar is unclear. Nonetheless, the timing hasn’t gone unnoticed by keen wrestling fans.

There were many members of WWE talent that were affected by the company’s recent ban on the services Twitch and Cameo. WWE sent a message to its talent, instructing them to cease operations of these channels. Failure to do so would result in anything from fines to releases from the company. Vega has also become recently active on OnlyFans, another third-party platform.

Zelina Vega made her WWE debut on the NXT brand, first appearing in July of 2017. She quickly aligned herself with Andrade, leading him to success, including one reign with the NXT Championship. The following January, Vega made her main roster debut at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, accompanying Andrade in the Royal Rumble match. Though Vega never won the NXT Women’s Championship, she worked with such talents as Candice LeRae before becoming a full-time member of the main roster.

During her time on the main roster, from SmackDown to RAW, Vega largely served as a manager. She continued to work alongside Andrade, but would also acquire new clientele, Angel Garza being another prominent example. This past September, however, Vega severed ties with Garza and Andrade, breaking out on her own as a singles star. She wrestled a few matches, most notably against Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions 2020, prior to her release.
